Hi,

Strange problem here. Had a customer come in with a broken dvddrive. Dumped it and used another (Benq) as a replacement. Worked fine with the XBOX360 flat.
Put it all back together and tested it one more time before the customer left. Tested it standing up, but the drive refused to eject. Figured it was jammed somewhere, but for the sake of it, I put the xbox360 flat and tested again. Ejected and closed fine.

Openen the 360 again and decided to test a little. So I put the xbox360 upright while having the dvddrive flat. And it refused to eject. Put the 360 flat again and it ejected just fine.

Replaced dvd power and sata cables, same behaviour. Took another drive (actually tried multiple after that, Samsung and Liteon) and all the same behaviour.

I'm baffled, if anyone has a clue to what's going on, please let me know Smiley The customer doesn't really mind (he has the 360 flat now), but I do.

tia !

I'd try that if I knew what that component looked like. Have a picture for me ?
Haven't checked the position of the led on the rol when a controller is connected, will do that as well to check.

Thanks !

here you go....don't mind the dust on the board...it's a parts board...

when tested with a multimeter setting on 300mw and diode check and any + or - on any of the 4 pins..
with the board laying down shows (no measurement).
standing up there is a measurement of 002 on all 4 pins...

can you hear the ball moving?
not saying 2 drives checked could be both bad belts but who knows...
but as he stated he checked with a different drive....

and by tilting the unit up and getting a 100% error each try,we know it has to do with the switching (tilt censor) because of the drives laying flat and not working when the unit was tilted..

simple to test - if sensor is working you can see that on ROL Smiley (and if not - why you think drive must wont eject? )

well the ROL board might be the problem also(just a fluke)..i have and had many go bad..
some even good on 1 unit and had to unplug on another unit for the dvd drive to work at all, or for the unit to turn on,
and both where the same model ROL boards, (so this relays more info then we think)..
but it can also show signs of switching the controller light(laying down or standing up lights) and not relaying back to the switch some other info because of the switch not completing the circuit...
the part i am stuck at is,what would the dvd drive have to do with the switching ,itself,
because the drive will read both ways without a switch(tilt either way)..it shouldn't really matter to the drive,
but you never know..(does the rol board look for a dvd drive first? and then do it cycle? I think it does...

Will test it tonight, have a few rrod board here from which I can scavenge the tilt sensor (now I know what it looks like (and the dust is not that bad, seen worse irl Cheesy).

Thanks and i'll update my findings tomorrow !

edit : just a heads up (and sorry for the lack of updates) : the 360 with the strange behaviour is no more. I finally had time yesterday and when I first turned it on (before replacing the tilt sensor) I was greeted with rrod. Tried a few 'fixes', but no luck. So I'm giving up on this box and keep this topic in my favorites for future reference.

Thanks nevertheless !!

Hello,

I have just repaired a console with this exact same issue.

I removed the system board completely, placed it on flat work surface and used a small flat headed screwdriver to lift the tilt sensor slightly away from the system board around 3mm.

This has resolved the issue.

If you choose to follow the same steps ensure that you remain gentle and do not force the sensor more than necessary. I would recomend no more than 5mm!
