I have a 16 MB nand Jasper with the latest XBR on it and R6T3 removed

All was working nice untill yesterday.

I use a 320GB internal hard drive and i allways ftp extracted games to hdd:\games\gamename, after i delete the system update folder.

Every single game worked like a charm, with title updates put in the cache folder.

A few days ago i sent to the hdd a new game and played it for 15 minutes - Prison Break.

The next day i wanted to play some random game and all i get is "This game could not start. Please download the game again". I have quickboot shortcuts and i even tried to launch default.xex from xexmenu. This game could not start....

Clearing the cache folder resolves it. Every game stars fine. If i put the title update for it - "This game could not start"

I have another brand new hdd with nothing on it. Made a profile, started xexmenu from cd, sent via ftp a game. The game starts fine. Restart xexmenu via cd, send the title update for that game in the cache folder - "this game could not start..."

What has changed overnight that games with title updates in the Cache folder will not start?

Have you read my post?

"Clearing the cache folder resolves it. "!!!!

The game works with no title update in the cache folder. If i ftp the title update it will no longer start.

Every single game worked fine until a few days ago with the cache folder full of title updates.

Problem solved!

Turns out ALL the xexes in the Games folder were "ruined".

I think in xexmenu i have highlighted with Y a game inside the games folder and selected "patch xex". This operation took 10 seconds and patched every single xex found in every games subfolder. This operation makes the xex incompatible with title updates.

Learned the hard way... If you want to use "patch xex" from xexmenu you have to enter the game folder, highlight default.xex and press y on it.

I've extracted a clean default.xex from an iso and uploaded it to the game folder. All is back to normal with title updates in the cache folder. Now i have to do the same with every game.

I'll just have a folder on the pc where i will keep a copy of every default.xex, just in case...

No need to patch when you're using XBR Tongue

I know. I may have done this on a folder by mistake or something and this action ruined every xex on all the folders.

Sorry dude, glad you figured it out, I wasn't sure if there was a difference between the clearing the individual folders or pressing those buttons.  Consider me informed.

Hey Dlav

Ugh... this just happened to me.... what a weird problem! This problem started happening to me once i replaced my internal hard drive.... i have all my games on a 2TB external USB... everything restored fine to my internal drive (just moved all the folders from my PC to the new drive) but as soon as i started accessing games with TU updates i got the "game cannot start" issue....  i read this post but said "naw... that cant be my problem... i have so many games i would have to fix!" but another post said match your media ID of your Default.xex to the TU media ID. I ran a couple of the problem game xex's in abgx to get the media id and the value is all zeros.....  i get an original xex and place in the games folder and sure enough it fires right up....   this is the about the same as finally finding out the type of rare disease you have but now having to deal with the rare disease.... sigh.... i wonder if theres a quick way to get ahold of all of the original xex files for my games...  i think i have alot of downloading to do..... but thanks so much for outlining this issue and resolution...  this ends a good 7 hours of troubleshooting and testing....

cheers

Ouch, sorry for your troubles. I have no clue how you can edit a xex to mach e certain media ID. You will have to replace all your .xex files and that's that... Maybe there is a thread on the internets where someone uploaded untouched default.xex files, just like i remember one with eboot files for the ps3.

I've made most of the games GOD, so there is no chance of messing the default.xex, but from now i guess you will have that backup folder where you will keep all the original default.xex files, right? Smiley

whoops... sorry if i overstepped any rule restrictions.... looking for the rules link now....  they dont seem to be right out front....

a question though... alot of folks run their iso's through abgx to fix certain issues... i wonder if it would do any good to package my games into iso format and ran them through abgx... and then perhaps use ISOTOGOD to return them to my system... worth a shot i guess...

p.s. Hey Dlav.... do you happen to have your folder of untouched default.xex files handy? lets talk deal... hehe :p

Gor rid of them long time ago, as they were uselees since i've made most of the games i ~cared about GOD. You can try googling "game name default.xex".

Anything that abgx fixes/corrects/adds will be lost once you go to a GOD package.

Who cares?

JTAG users never ever need ABGX. I use Xbox Image Browser and extract all the files from a game, delete every useless files and folders, like system update and any non english speech crap. If the game still has hundreds or thousands of files, i make it GOD (Use create iso by Foggy_007 to build a new .iso from the game folder and Iso2God on the resulting .iso). If the game has a few large files, i leave it like that and just FTP the folder, making a QuickBoot shortcut or just launching it from xexmenu, whatever.

On another note, no tool can make a single change to a default.xex without breaking it. The file is signed, so as there are no keys to sign stuff, any alteration, like using X360GameHack on it, will make it incompatible with title updates.
