GPU interchangeable?

Ive recently reflowed some xboxes and one of the boxes has a defective GPU.

Im wondering if i can take a GPU from another xbox of same type and use that since the box in question is jtag-friendly?

Search for transplant cpu nand and you will see that the cpu and Nand are tied togheter, so swapping the GPU for exactly the same type should work.

Yeah i knew about the CPU, but thanks for mentioning it.

And thanks for confirming! Now i just have to find a box with the GPU i need...
Woould be nice to finally get a jtagged box to play with.

if your using IR heat to re-ball make sure you pulsate the heat....this way it won't warp on a re-mend to the mobo

Hehe, thanks for the tip.
Had that prob last week when i used one of our IR stations.

Im using the APR5000 now which is hot air/nitrogen (we dont have nitrogen hooked up tho) and i got a preliminary temperature/time curve going.

Also noticed they are selling brand new GPUs on ebay at around $25 inc shipping. Gonna check on monday if its the same partnumber as i got..

Got the GPU a week ago and upon inspection i noticed that it had residue of thermal paste on the top.
When i inspected the bottom i didnt see any signs of reballing however so i think its new as he described..
(Both sides inspected in microscope with 6x magnification)

I sent him a mail about it, explaining that im just curious as to why there is thermal paste and assuring him that i wont claim a refund nor give him bad feedback, but no reply yet..


Anyways, ive reballed the CPU and soldered that and the GPU today so we will see how it goes..
Had no issues with dog-earing once i started using the APR5000 instead of the IR station from Metcal

Ah well, still need to get my hands on a broken box so i can drill holes and make a proper thermal profile. Once i do ill post it here in case others have an APR5000 and wants to solder xboxes..
