I just got a Refurb Jasper 512MB with Dash/Kernel at 2.0.7371. BK:2.0.1888.0

It has on the back that it's manufactured on 10/15/2009.

I can only assume that the reason it has that manufactured date on it is because the Lite-on 93450C drive in it has a manufactured date of 10/2009 too.

Looks like they just dropped in a new DVD drive into it and buttoned it back up and sent it out the door. Still has some dust in the heat sinks and on the fan blades.

Also observed is the GPU heatsink is the old style without the secondary radiator coming off of it..

Unless I am fairly lucky.. I wonder if I've got a Jtagable Jasper 512MB without the updated bootloader..

I figured if it was a newly manufactured unit, it would have had the updated Dash/Kernel, along with the new style GPU heatsink that came out when the Falcon boards shipped..

I won't know until I dump the NAND, but I'm going with a Cygnos V2 chip to do it.. and that's on pre-order...

I'm curious if anyone else has come across a Jasper 512MB unit that is Jtagable that came from a repair center??

I figured a repair facility would update it to the latest Dash/Kernel before shipping it out..

Having 2.0.7371 makes me wonder if I lucked out...

m$ reverted back to the old stye heatsinks once they started using the smaller nm GPU's

fairly certain it will be the updated bootloader

you can dump a single sector of the nand over lpt to see the cb revision

I wish I could do the LPT method, but all my machines are quad core AMDs without LPT ports.

So I have to wait on the Cygnos V2 option.... Unless there's another USB option I can go with,
which is what the Cygnos V2 is...

question is, would a XBOX360 service center be the ones to update the Bootloader code only,
without updating the entire Dash/Kernel as well when just dropping in a new DVD drive??

Or is this just done on the manufacturing lines??

I'm not sure this was entirely refurbed.. I think all was done to it was the DVD drive replaced and
branded as remanufactured as of 10/2009. The fans and heatsinks and top RF shield has dust all
on it.. Now what I would call a refurb as I have seem them in the past..

be nice if I could find out what the original manufacture date was....

The chassis has a manufacture date stamped in on the underside of it.

with xbr currently being a better solution than freeboot, whats the point of installing a cygnos?  what advantages does it provide other than over complicating xbr installs?

Huh Huh Huh  I know im new to this but you could always do a USB Flash/SPI also been noted if the manufacture date is after the update, it may still be 7371 but the cb was patched

yeah I've discovered that option as well.. will order me a kit off eBay...

It's probably a patched CB... unless I'm very lucky...

noone has made mention that repair facilities do the CB patching as well and keep the Dash/Kernel at 2.0.7371

I was under the impression that the CB patched ones came off the manufacturing lines like that..

this one appears to be a refurb, which all that may have been done to it was a new DVD drive dropped into it.. the heat sinks and fans had dust on them... not really what I would call a true to the form Refurbished console.

superfast flashing through USB in XP.. 2< min write/read

and in case you brick your nand by doing weird stuff, you can reflash easily with cygnos

for the rest it's pretty much useless... soldering the device to the board is quite tricky, suppose SPI wires are a bit more easy
