^ wanting to join the mass with my stupid topic title

I was having to do a drive swap for a customer of mine. Hitachi wouldn't read games anymore what he said. It did read games just fine before, so I figured an easy fix.

But no sir.

I have come to the conclusion flash appears broken.
- The console shows the ROL animation onscreen, stalls a while there, and then goes into E64.
- When powering my CK3 with drive attached to my Nforce 2 Ultra, XP will be all slow and unresponsive (not a complete freeze)
- PC will stall on powerup with the drive powered on (doesn't even show BIOS)
- XP will hang on bootscreen (tried to power it on bootup)
- Tray will not eject anymore (on PC / Xbox 360)
- If i boot the console without sata attached to the DVD drive, and press the eject, it briefly blinks, console will say "opening" for 1 sec, then go to "close tray"...
If i hit the eject again, it's "closing" , and shorty after it will say "reading", then immediatly go to "open tray" again  (this is the cycle)

Anyone able to read it externally for me with a programmer for a good price (PM me)

Or have a hint on a possible fix.. I really doubt there is any, I have searched.. It's a 8948 dash so no JTAG Sad

Thought I had a backup of his firmware.. He's a regular.. But didn't turn out to be the right one (He had this one modded loooong time ago elsewhere)

Lesson to be learned, ALWAYS keep your backup firmware safe for your consoles. Don't expect the drive to be able to dump the firmware (that's what my thought used to be). If I had the backup firmware, he's be fixed already.

i'd jump on this .......but in your topic you just said I need help without the  HuhHuhHuhHuh??
use the nm...lol
so without the drive the 360? does that error? and with it in...it lags
you might be able to catch the info on that drive if you back down to the early years when us old peeps used Hitachi's(software)for command line flashing at boot up...(see i said command line not DOS...

I wish i had my socket for the Willem...but china is closed till the 25th...dammit (some new year $#!t for them)

it boots fine into dashboard without drive.. but it will not eject, showing me the cycle of "opening" "close tray" "closing", everytime i press the eject button.. everytime I do this the LED in the middle blinks for one second

looks like this drive is toast.. weird that a drive can ruin itself

Personnally i would get a bright light and give the customer the 3rd degree, 9 out of 10 times you get "umh eeehhh well my neighbour also mods xboxes and eeehh ummm uhhhh"

Do the chips on the dvd drive pcb get hot if you power it on?

if you can achieve mode_b you may be able to read out using plscsi like what we were doing at the very start, maybe then you can at least see if the firmware is corrupted

without modeb there can be no bit poking to pull key off so unfortunately willem is only option

as max says, sounds like the classic two wire trick gone bad or power plug in upside down done by someone else

a little project to further your 360 knowledge, grab a willem and start playing....

then you can add the service to your list for your customers you d be surprised how many people have an old xbox lying in a cupboard with a dead hitachi in it from such an error hell its how i killed my very first xbox

if you havent seen this

http://www.kev.nu/360/dvd.html

covers all the research into the very first fw dump of hitachi's but without modeb useless for your partivcular situation
