Btw... i bought "styroglass" 2.5mm width panels (styroglass is very similar than methacrylatic, but is a trade mark from a manufacturer... used by IKEA)
Is easy to cut... you can make straight lines with a cutting knife... and you can "break" the pieces at the lines you have "marked"

The brand proposes you a tool to make this cuts (i dont remember the name of the tool... but is similar that a cutting knife)

This plastics pieces are easy to glue with a "bicomponent" epoxy, and are easy to work with a chisel

First of all let me say that im very impressed with this mod. And all the high quality pictures and video that goes with it... I would like to do this mod on my own Box, but im wondering about different kind of things...So i dont hope you mind im asking... Smiley

I think, doing the electronics would be quite a challenge for me, so could you tell me where you soldered the wires that power the fans? And that fan controle.. do you have a link so i can see how it looks like? Smiley

And about removing the DVD drive, if people worried about losing it, then couldent you just attach the DVDs internal wires to a bracket somewhere inside the chassis, so that you could have your dvd drive outside the box, and just attach it externally whenever you needed it?

Again, a hell of a project.. good work man Smiley

If I didn't like questions, I wouldn't use a forum to present it. Wink

Wires for fan control power are soldered directly to 12V/GND pads under the mainboard where the PSU socket sits.
Pictures for location and cable routing are in my first post of this thread.

schematics for fan control:
http://www.modding-faq.de/index.php?artid=518
It's german, but should have enough pictures to finish it without german knowledge.

Sure, that is no problem to make, it's just a lot of work.
I myself didn't make it because I have no need anymore for DVD.

Again, a hell of a project.. good work man Smiley

thx Smiley

looks cool. the point is, make the xbox not easy to sit.

I just make the fan up to 90%. play bc2 an hour , the cpu is 63C, gpu 50C, ram 54C, mb 34C

it's xenon also. I can say, that mod works, the system runs good but not silent.

and I will say, don't do the x-calms, you will have the RRod very soon. as soon as your system is not over 70C, the x-calms will not cost any problem. but the screws will. you can see a lot of people when replace the x-calms about 1 month, than got RRod.

Your wrong about the xclamps, they are a flawed design, especially with the heat the early unit generated.

Also each XBOX is slightly different, maybe yours just runs a little cooler.

I have changed multiple xclamps to button bolts and NEVER had a unit come back.  I have repaired multiple units that had RROD by reflowing and changing the xclamps.

Just my 2 cents

Where did you buy the blue fan ducts for the top fans?  Huh

That's the only part I can't seem to find online...

OP's cooling fan is damn stylish.  I wish I had something like that...or even had time these days to make something like that.

Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat and then he beat the crap out of every single one.
And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a 'zoo'! Unless it's a farm!"

small status update of my xbox:

After 15 month of more or less regular use (about 1-10 hours a week) it is still working, silent and cool.

Hello, Akira2007!
Could you make a mirror for your images, please? I am very impressed by this article, but unfortunately I can not see the picture. For my country illustrations from the given image hosting aren't displayed. I would be immensely grateful for mirrored links to images!
Sincerely, Hydr

First off, great work Akira! Looks like you really put some effort into this.

I want to do something similar, but a little simpler, and just need to grab 12v from somewhere for an external fan (Falcon board), any recommendations?

I searched around the forums, and a guy named "Gigabite" mentioned some tutorial PDF, but it seems he hasn't been online for several years. He mentioned that the 12v from the DVD-drive were not the best method due to not being stable, does anyone have info on that?

Thanks in advance!

take it straight off the power connector on the underside of the mobo, best place to take it, dont touch the dvd cable.

Thanks Gazcoigne, especially for the picture!  Cheesy

I will try that out tomorrow, I managed to coax an electronically-skilled colleague into helping me.  Wink

I read somewhere about using AMD coolers, wich socket would it be? or what model of cooler are you using?

.::edit::. Sorry, I'm dumb... researched for the coolers, couldn't find much about them...

good thinking, I'll check if I have something I could use, for now, have a lot of AMD stock coolers, better search for something else in the market.
