I was just wondering if the hot swap method will work with SATA dvd-burners, instead of a standard SATA DVD-rom.

Thanks.

It might, its never been tested with a burner. Give it a try, I don't see why it wouldn't. Just boot into windows and wait a few seconds after boot is completed and swap the cable as fast as you can.

Is there anyway to see if the drive worked, besides flashing it.

Should it function just like a normal drive, ie: Reading data from discs in Windows?

It will function like a normal drive. You should be able to put a cd in and right click the drive and explore it. But when you swap, windows will still think its the previous drive so don't let that foul you. Just don't put the cd in till after. Having a cd in either drive might cause a freeze.

You might be better off just getting a SATA adaptor for a IDE drive that is proven working many times, no one has ever tried a DVD burner. Also if you have any more questions post in tech support next time.  Smiley
