This is a pic of my soldering and wiring. I have tried a 20 and 22 ohm resistor and no luck just get 0x51 or 0x52 or when i power off i get 0xD2. I am power on with the console and the dvd drive ejects and the power light is constant.

any tips will be much appreciated i used a multimeter to check for shorts and couldnt find any

Turn the switch off or take the resistor off when reading (after you have entered vendor mode)

Hey guys,

I've come accross this board to repair (To be honest, never had much success with 0x7F Lite-Ons, encountered two. The other 0x7F lite-on happened when I erased the drive 2 years ago, and it froze mid-erase and was always returning 0x7F ever since).

Images: http://www.t3chline.com/images/Lite-ON%20MRA/

The damage wasn't bad, and you can see it was simple to fix, however with MRA or stock it would still return 0x7F regardless. (Normally a stock drive would return info in the JF info box such as PLDS DG16D2S 9345 etc.

I checked the MTK chip, and removed epoxy, it still appears to be fine.

I've put my finger on the chip itself and it was still cold. Does not get hot.

Therefore I have a feeling that the chip is not getting power somehow (0x7F indicates nothing connected).

I've repaired other boards fine, but the 0x7F Lite-Ons has been scratching my head ever since Tongue

Zeckyporosi,

I have one liteon board here also that has the same problem.
It is capris_ss Liteon 7 board i have the FW, but when i erased it status returned 0x7F.

Then the board went dead now only status 0x7F. DOS L-O erase don’t work, JF DF 32 no go.
It did give me hard time to dump it. Also the damage was worst than yours.

Now my fried mKo is looking in to it to find solution. I repot back if we find the problem.

capris_ss Liteon 9 was burned 3,3V in the mt chip is damaged pin 60 2 ohms and pin 75 5 ohms. Also 1,8 line in mt chip is 10 ohms. There is nothing I can do.

It was not total lost 7 was dumped.

Also my Via 6421A car fired when I was trying to dump the burned liteon 9 board.
This can happen.

I have ordered 2 more via cards that i can continue my work.

Hey again,

Unfortunately, this was sent in for me to fix it and dump the drive in question.. Sad

I tried dumping / erasing the other 0x7F board I had as spare a month ago, still never worked again, so I believe it's a hardware issue.. The chip simply would not work or turn on it seems.

And the board died with 0x7F 2 years ago when I simply erased it. MRA method didn't exist at the time so the board was untouched basically.

My theory is that he might've used no resistor (just straight to GND) and somehow killed the chip, or shorted pad 101 out to GND (bypassing the resistor) which can be a possibility..

However this does'nt explain why the board is simply dead from erasing. (on the first 0x7F Lite-ON)

I think he means that he can't read the drive if he turns the switch off (otherwise he would get parse failed).

solder a wire from c01 (box w/ 0 on it above the red x on top side of pcb) to the trace on the bottom side of board w/ the lifted pad.

if your traces are cut, it won't, just go through the steps as if it did.

Thanks for your help so far  Grin

So if I do as pictured: (with the wire going off to c01 and traces cut)

I should get a good read using the probe II...

I'm uncertain to whether the blue circle I've highlighted has lifted also, which is pad no.8 on Dreams guide, so I believe anyway.. if it has what measures should I take.

i'm pretty sure the fix for that pad is under the epoxy.  for the first spot, an easy alt that is on the same side of the board would be to jump that trace to the trace w/ 3 pads under the "11" in the top right of the picture.  are you capable of removing the epoxy or was you capabilities what got you in this fix in the first place?

my capabilities got me in this mess in the first place, however a good worker always blames his tools, so I have order a butane soldering iron , which i can also use to remove epoxy if necessary, but as I say I'm unsure as to whether that "blue" circle pad is goosed or not
