How to repair lite-on pad 101

I give you hint.

The MT chip heats up so it must draw current.
Usually 3,3v line is damaged. (some "pin" in MT chip)
So measure current from 3,3V line.
When the current drops hi to low you know there is problem in that pin.
Lift 3,3V pins one by one and find your problem pin.

Also check 1,8V regulator that it is not damaged.

You can also measure resistance 3,3V to GND normal resistance is 100K ohm to 105K ohm.
If the resistance is low there is problem lift the 3,3V pins up one by one and find the problem pin.
When the resistence goes hi you know it is that pin.

This troubleshooting is only for pros if you dont have equipment / soldering skills dont do it.

I did this and it was succes. (pin 122 was the problem)

Hi Dream, thanks for the help you have indirectly given me thus far. I'm trying to repair a Lite-on with no intension of putting LT on it or retrieving the key. The three cuts are made and a few pads are busted here are some pics of my progress. Sorry for the bad quality. As of now, when I test the dvd drive, it won't read games, and the Xbox light still flashes as if there's not a dvd drive there. Although, open and close commands sent from the dashboard work, but sometimes it will say it's open when it's closed, etc. Thanks in advanced.

Drive wont work if you dont have 3,3V powered to pad101/pin101 or pad122/pin122.

You have done every 3,3V fix to your board... you only need one fix. (@MRA 3,3V jumper)
Your soldering looks bad so clean every thing and start all over.
Measure resistance 3,3V to GND 100k - 105k ohm is good, zero ohm is bad @short-circuit.


First repair your board like this and measure.

Hi dreams you have great thread going here.  Just want to know whats the next best way to dump my drive.  As i damaged my 101 when preping the board.  I managed to get it working again using one of your designs. Apologise about the poor quality photo thanks.

Hey, if I lifted pad 101 and am using the LT switch, what can I solder to the pad101 spot to fix it (the spot on the LT switch)?

I'm also having the heating up problem so I'll probably still have to fix that. I figured the problem was my soldering skills so I bought the LT switch.

LT switch pad101 and pad122 are connected together, so you need to solder only one pad... Solder Pad122 if the pan101 is damaged.

I have developed new repair/dump method  it is not permanent  fix but you can save your Firmware.
Minimum soldering no epoxy removal don’t matter what pad is broken.
Going to do some testing  and then show how it is done.

I think I plugged in the power adapter backwards trying to do a liteon, saw a flash and this is what my board looks like.


If you notice the red circled areas, there appears to be a small hole in the top of the chip and it looks like the epoxy started to melt away as well?

I get no power/eject/ anything to the drive.  Did I fry it or can it be fixed by any of the fixes in this thread?

If parts of a chip casing pop off like that, it usually heated up extremely fast and hot below that. Which also means that whatever transistors etc of the chip were in that spot are likely a blob of molten silicon now.
