epoxy removal?  i make 2 cuts and 3 solders to dump drive.  1 resistor and 2 scrap wires.  will prep a board and show ya.  also, i sharpened the end of my resistor so it actually spears 101.

Home made probe2... Russians/germans work. (love the idea)

all credit for this goes to mra and takishi.  mra for the orginal concept and takishi for teaching me that the switch is just unnecessary.

that one was sloppy, but i am clean w/ not exposing the ground, so i can be a little sloppy.  it passed the multimeter though.
i have an idea, i bet we can ground the resistor to a connectivity kit instead of the pcb.  there is a grd pad on the xtractor pro b/w the
dvd power jack and the probe jack.  don't use the grd on the probe jack, it will fry an xtractor.  as soon as my new xtractor gets here
i'll try it.

Easy Probe2  Grin

hit device --> Power off the drive and Probe it (Pin 101 or pin 122)--> Power on the drive --> Probe off --> read.

Or

hit device --> Power off the drive and Probe it (Pin 101 or pin 122)-->  Power on the drive --> hit device again --> Probe off --> read.

Or

hit device --> Power off the drive and Probe it (Pin 101 or pin 122)--> Power on the drive --> Probe off --> hit device again --> read.

Measure resistance 3,3V to GND 95Kohm - 110Kohm is good. After 3,3V fix @ jumpwire.

My work.

I didn’t mean you... Readers, beginners...

If you are having status problems use R 15 ohm resistor.

I am using R 20 ohm and R 15 ohm resistors.
I always start whit R20 and if the status won’t change (72) then R15.

Thanks

Ok, this may seem a bit...well...overkill, but here goes nothin

A friend came to me after he tried to mod his liteon as his first experience with a soldering iron. He was one of those "oh, how hard could it be" people.

He lifted the 101 and 122.

He told me and i told him you can fix it if you remove the epoxy and solder. I told him I'll do it for him, but of course he didn't listen, and tried to remove the epoxy. The problem is while removing it, he messed up alot of pins. After finally listening and putting the iron down, he gave me the drive today, and a big fat $60 prize if i can fix it.

Anyway, here's the pins that he messed up. http://i50.tinypic.com/9qfrwg.jpg (yes, all of those are f*cked.)
I'm pretty good with an iron, so I don't need the whole beginner soldering lecture. I would just like to know the alternative points to fix these pins, if there are any. At this point, dumping the firmware is kind of a necessity so we can get the dvdkey incase this drive won't spin a disc or something (which the chance of that is quite high seeing the condition of this drive).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You mean just those pins are broken? If mobo is ok, get your dremel and sand that MT chip case little bit, so you can see those cutted pins. (Same way like some Wii´s had to mod earlier). Then just use thin wire to solder those pins pack to mobo.

Edit: Like this: http://www.mod-chip.bz/wii/d2bcutpine.html
