Is there any way we can use Xell to get CPU/GPU temps?

Alternatively, is there any libraries in the SDK that we can use to probe the CPU/GPU temps?

Thanks in advance

I might be wrong but the temps are monitored by the.. the SMC chip... I think

There was a post made back a while ago about this.. I think Robinson was the one who detailed it.

Sorry I cant be more helpful but I think that it might be possible just not sure if Xell would need to be coded for it or not.

I think the yet unreleased version of XexLoader / XexMenu shows temps.

Here's the original link:

It requires  a seperate patched SMC code, which will interfere with the existing JTAG code injection unless tmbinc or robinsod creates a "hybrid" smc patch, and both heros have quit the Xbox hacking scene on the other hand.

You should be able to read the temps from Linux using the sample source code provided.  See here:

http://www.free60.org/SMC

Maybe you can also port this code a XDK version.

Would be cool if XBReboot could incorporate temp readings in the Guide Button  Grin

Absolutely it would.  So far the modding of the MS Dashboard has been limited to removing security checks I think.  Adding new features and implementing them into the MS dash might be very difficult, I'm not too sure.  I'm surprised XBR hasn't authored a new boot up animation since it appears to be an easy file to replace in the flash.

I'm hoping eventually we might have complete 3rd party dashes like EvoX, etc.  There might be reasons why writing your own dash is infinitely harder for 360 architecture then it was for Xbox1.  So we do ever get to that point, I'm hope temp reading will be available.

temp readout working fine with XEXLoader 0.30.

falcon reads out 30 minutes resting in XEXloader (will post Jasper later to see difference):
CPU 48.8
GPU 58.8
EDRAM: 57.8
MB 29.3

and a new (or totally removed) boot animation would be very cool too  Wink

Great that Link to the free60 XELL article was a great help. Is there any way to boot linux on an XBR box to see what the program looks like in action?

Those are the die temperatures. The die temperatures are always more exaggerated than the actual surface temperature of the chip in my opinion

Also, jelle mentioned that his console is Falcon, which have the new GPU and CPU heatsinks, as well as colder chipsets. That may explain why your temperatures are significantly different.

jasper 30 minutes with having played snes360 for a few minutes in the beginning:
CPU 45.4
GPU 54.5
EDRAM 56.6
MB 31.1

*note both my temp readings where done without any cooling modification or whatsoever (edit:) (would be interesting to see some more temp readings now xexmenu is out)
