hi,

just wondering as i've been searching for days, and after sifting through all the clutter, i've read that you can and cannot upgrade your harddrive without the jtag hack. i wanted to get a 250gig WD scorpio bevt drive.

is this true? i thought you could just get the hdss.bin via hddhackr, setup the new drive, and then move all the files over. i have a brand new jasper and am unable to jtag it. i read something about the harddrive password only being accessible through xbr and freeboot. i copied all the data off my original hdd with xplorer360 successfully, but was unsure if setting the drive up with hddhackr and copying the files back will work.

thanks

then you didn't read very closely. you can build official sizes with hddhackr and a WD. You can not use any other drive or size without the jtag hack.
I don't know where you got the idea with the password, the hdds are not passworded in any way.

ok, well thank you for clarifying. i was reading all this crap about it, and using some program called a-ff repair station to get the password from the hdd, but it cost $70, and some other program "atapwd".

but maybe that was to write files to an original xbox hdd. maybe i got confused with writing to original hdd's as i read they are locked. or did i misread that as well? can you write to original hdd's?

that was for original xbox. and even then, you dont need those apps.
atapwd was only used to unlock a xbox drive if you knew the key. the other app, i've never used.
if u locked ur new drive with configmagic it had a backdoor password as well.

but anyways, this is off topic.

with xbr/freeboot you can just hook any sata hdd up (2.5") and it will be detected.

if you want the hdd to work in non xbr/freeboot xboxs, you need to flash the hdss.bin to your drive.
