Have been using this box as an exploit box for a while now, however i took it to main tv which uses hdmi and i found that its displayed as dvi allowing me to choose vga resolutions but there is no sound via hdmi (obviously vga uses sound via opticalor analogue).
Video and sound are fine via component - have applied xclamps ok and reheated southbridge and ram so im not convinced its a hw issue.
Some threads on xs re it say disable auto checking in display but i havnt got that menu option... (is nxe dash)

Any suggestions ?

What model TV is it? Maybe, if itīs a bit older, the HDMI is just a DVI "in disguise", meant for PC only (with DVI-HDMI adapter), therefore not able to accept sound.
Or the TV maybe is incabable of HDSPA, but that should give you no picture as well (maybe
would affect only HD-DVD)?

i'm pretty sure he has had a 360 hooked up via HDMI, where sound did work

i mean he's a regular here.. and quite technical..

HDSPA supporting tv's? wtf are you trying to say.. or are you trolling..

I think he meant HDCP.

1 falcon works as you expect via hdmi, one doesnt.  tv isnt an issue, xbox #2 is.

Man i had the same thing happen with an old falcon i had.

I had got it with rrod and fixed the console no probs. however as the console started to die again a few months later it started to do the same thing. after that it died all together so i wouldnt completely rule out a HW error.
