***If your PC freezes while booting after putting the drive in ModeB, simply eject the tray and it should unfreeze***

1. Get the drive into ModeB using the SLAX Linux disk. The latest version of the disk (v2) works with SATA-to-USB adaptors!

2. Open 360 Firmware Toolbox v3

3. Tools > Direct Drive Dump

4. Select your Hitachi 78 drive (should be the only one)

5. Press 'RAW Dump Firware As' and save as 78original.bin

6. The program will say the firmware has been dumped and ask if you want to open it, press 'Yes'

---Dump the firmware a few more times (save it as different names) and make sure you get the same checksum every time!---

7. Make a note of the DVD Key for backup purposes

8. Tools > Smart Hack Patcher

9. Save the output file as hacked78.bin

10. Check that the rule is set for v78 drives and click 'Generate File'

11. The program will ask if you want to open the new file, press 'Yes'

12. Tools > Direct Drive Flash > Differential Flash (PATCH)

13. Select your drive from the list and press 'Read Drive and Detect Differences'

14. Make sure 'Internal Flasher' is selected and press 'Start Flashing'

15. Once it says 'All Sectors Flashed', you're done!

16. Turn your PC off and unplug the drive, plug it back into the Xbox and try it out!
