Hi Fellas, Long time reader, first time poster here so go easy on me . Over the last few days i have tried to preform the JTAG hack / installing XbR onto my nand. I did the dump three times and checked out the files using flashtools / degraded and all seemed fine. However i cannot get XBR to work, i follow these instructions. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=698328I did everything correctly, but i got a variety of different symptoms to E79 - RROD - NO Picture/Sound and only middle light flashing. I tried to restore my original NAND but no luck. I just read a post telling someone to compare my NAND dumps with total commander. There is a total of 60 difference between my two nand files. Does this mean this box is a right off? or is it still able to be recovered? Any help would be great, if someone was willing to take a look at my nand dumps and point me in the right direction that would be even better. Thanks in advance. I am currently trying to restore my original nand after erasing everything on it using the command in nandpro.

After restoring my original NAND i get a E79 error and one red light flashing in the bottom right hand side.
I don't mind if its the original NAND or a XBR NAND, id really just like to get the box to boot again lol.
(Did remove the Jtag)
Any pointers?
Currently uploading my nand to rapidshare for you good folk to look at

Now im trying to get XBR on it by following these steps
Flashing XBR to your nand :
* Grab the XBR_8955 matching your board from Xbins * Go to your nandpro20b folder * nandpro orig.bin: -r16 rawkv.bin 1 1 * Now that you have extracted your keyvault from your orig.bin, inject them in the xbr_8955.bin of your motherboard version : * Rename the xbr_8955.bin of your board to xbr.bin to simplify things. * nandpro xbr.bin: -w16 rawkv.bin 1 1 * Now that you've injected your keyvault into xbr.bin all you need to do is flash is back to your nand. * nandpro lpt: -w16 xbr.bin * Once done , unplug lpt cable from pc , turn on xbox and enjoy XBR. * Problems? Refer to troubleshooting and end of guide. (ignored the config bit, read a few times it wasnt required)
Currently flashing again now, will update symptoms as soon as it finishes.
Thank you

Xbox hacking 101 ...... make as many dumps of the nand as you need to, in order to get two identical images. Xbox hacking 102 ...... use a USB flasher, its more reliable hehehe Just kidding dude, dont wanna give u a hard time but i think you have some hope. I believe E79 could mean a corrupt dashboard file. Do me a favor and disconnect any storage devices you may have ? (Hdd, mem card). and then try the console again. But i believe your KV or secdata are ok, because if they were corrupt you'd be getting christmas lights. What you can do is rebuild your nand. Search in the forums for a tutorial. I wrote one and there's other ones floating around too. and good luck with it P.S. You might need to flash your nand with xell and get your cpu key. Then you can play with rebuilding the nand. P.P.S. Try loading xell as that doesnt require and special patching, its a straight up flash. P.P.P.S. When you were injecting your KV and secdata (config) into the XBR image were u using Nandpro 2.0a or 2.0b ? When i used 2.0a i got christmas lights, when i used 2.0b it worked hunky dory

Xbox hacking 101 ...... make as many dumps of the nand as you need to, in order to get two identical images. Xbox hacking 102 ...... use a USB flasher, its more reliable hehehe lol, yeh i know. I didnt know about the "exactly identical" issue untill i did a bit of searching today. Learned my lesson though Just kidding dude, dont wanna give u a hard time but i think you have some hope. I believe E79 could mean a corrupt dashboard file. Do me a favor and disconnect any storage devices you may have ? (Hdd, mem card). and then try the console again.
No HDD/Mem card attached. But i believe your KV or secdata are ok, because if they were corrupt you'd be getting christmas lights. What you can do is rebuild your nand. Search in the forums for a tutorial. I wrote one and there's other ones floating around too. and good luck with it No X-mas lights, thankgod im not a fan of them. Ill have a search for the tutorial, hopefully its not beyond me. Soldering / Electronics is fine, but jeeze software/coding gives me a hard time. P.S. You might need to flash your nand with xell and get your cpu key. Then you can play with rebuilding the nand.
Okay, Any links to XELL available? Do i flash it just like XBR but don't worry about any of the KV/Config patching? P.P.S. Try loading xell as that doesnt require and special patching, its a straight up flash.
Thanks P.P.P.S. When you were injecting your KV and secdata (config) into the XBR image were u using Nandpro 2.0a or 2.0b ? When i used 2.0a i got christmas lights, when i used 2.0b it worked hunky dory Not to sure about what version of NandPro, it just says NandPro V2.0 by Tiros (PS. Thanks for the great app). Any links to the latest? Thanks again for all your help

Xell is available at the "usual places" doesnt require any KV or config data patching, so you're good to go out of the box. Just make sure you get the correct build for your motherboard. i.e. xenon, falcon etc ... lets try with that and see how u go. Get the latest version of NandPro 2.0b (make sure it actually says NandPro v2.0b by Tiros when you run it) Its also available from the usual places, or google

Finally finished flashing. When i power it on by the power switch the middle light just flashes, no audio / video using composite cables. When i power on using a USB controller plugged into the back USB port i get all 4 lights flashing but nothing else using composite cables. Can any of you make any sense out of these symptoms ? *edit* turned it on and off again, now turning it on using the controller in the back USB port also only gives one flashing central green light so does turning it on from the power switch. Cheers

Can you get a secondary code even if there are no red lights?

If you have 3 dumps of your nand, I would extract the KV and config from all 3, and compare them in total commander. If you can any get matching pairs, then you should be able to build yourself a good copy of XBR, even though your original nand dumps weren't 100% good. Also once you have a good xbr built, from my experiences it might take a couple flashes, esp if your getting e71's and e79's.

Whats the secondary error code ?
Can you get a secondary code even if there are no red lights? Also had a ball of a time with one Xbox, try to remove the power from the xbox for 60 seconds after every flash and start at least 2 times. Question: did you power on the xbox inbetween making the different NAND dump?, then small differences can occur, otherwise they should match exactly. What kind of xbox is it?, Xenon? if yes what kind of wiring did you use for the jtag hack? Maby it would be a good idea to flash one of your original NAND dumps back and then Xell, that way you can get your CPU key (write down all the fuse lines from the screen) and take a better look at your NAND dumps, or even rebuild one. Good luck

Check you are using Nandpro2b before you do anything else.
Okay, Just realized Ive taken the initial dumps on Nandpro2a... Does that mean this box is rooted? Ive found a copy of 2B and i am currently flashing my original nand back using 2B. Still hunting down a decent copy of xell though. **UPDATE** Tried flashing back dump1 of my original dump using nandpro 2B no luck... Trying the second one now.. All i get is the middle green LED light flash, no other response.

Still hunting down a decent copy of xell though. the 2 dumps of my consoles nand that i have were made with 2A and an infectus and both matched, so i dont really see an issue that could be with your dump, (yes it can take a few times to get a proper dump with 2A though)

Found Xell falcon_hack_updxell.bin
Flashed, still getting just a flashing green light, screen blank everything else blank.
Tried powering on from the bottom and wired controller on the back USB port.
I am also using BAT46 for the Jtag hack instead of BAT41.
Would that be causing problems?

Bat41/46 are both Small Signal Schottky Diodes so i would not think that that is a problem. And if that would be the problem it would mean only the XELL hack wouldn't work and the original nands would. Personally i guess you have more than one problem, try to flash a original NAND and then read it back, then compare with one of the many tools around, this would give you an indication how good the writing/reading is. That XELL wont work is maby an indication that something else is wrong, did you use the resistors for the LPT cable?, look carefully for any soldersplashes etc. Dont forget to disconnect the LPT cable from the pc if you want to power on the Xbox, and as said before remove all power for 30 seconds from the xbox after flashing.

Ill give this a try in a few hours and report back. I used 100ohm resistors on the DB25 side of the cable. The soldering is pretty good, ill check for bridges using a multi tomorrow. But i install modchips on a daily basis, so my solderings pretty on target. Thanks alot for your reply, really appreciate all the help i have gotten so far.

Saw a nice little tool that could be of help: http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?topic=13208.0Maby you can get a good nand from the 3 bad ones. If this program works you could flash it and read it back immediately to check if writing is correctly done. Good luck!!
