Nope.. Some people I know use the config, some don't. Each has slowdowns and freezes.. So it's not (atleast not only) the config
Fair enough. Like I said it works fine for me.
I do see a lot of reports about blowing off the config flashing part, because of xmas lights.
Imho thats not the solution.
Perhaps the original smc fw is different from the hacked smc and the hacked smc chokes on the wrong config?
XBR outputs serial debug info, but ive not seen any posted.

How do we get the serial bug info so I can post it also?  In the meantime I will do some searching myself.

Hook up the serial port, set to 115200 on your terminal app, look at what it outputs during lockup

ermmmm, could be that many people don't read the readme and that causes most of the problems with XBR, but saying that everything works correctly for 10 mins but when playing a full game from hdd with xexloader the game will start lagging/freezing after 10 minutes (for virtually all the people that actually bothered trying to play something for more than 10 minutes) is related to not reading the readme and flashing incorrectly is a bit... far stretched imho...

It does have issues. I read the readme, didn't have any bad blocks, did my raw KV and raw config, etc. and still have a few issues. Mostly with Assassin's Creed 2, though. It's unplayable, honestly. But it's not time-delayed lag or anything, it's pretty bad right from the start. Arkham Asylum doesn't run at all, freezes on the splash screens.

I seem to be in the same boat as you TeamZebra.  I had no bad blocks, injected both KV and Config, and same thing with Batman.  There has to be something we are missing.

Had an no Bad Block xbox over here and flashed it with XBR with KV and Config, did not remove the power and alternating 2red above, 2 green down.
Pulled my hairs out because i use the pic flasher and that hasn't given me a bad read/flash ever.
Tried without config and it worked directly.

Now for the interesting part:
Started all over, made new XBR +KV+config (compare was 100% the same as first file) flashed it AND REMOVED THE POWERCABLE for 60 sec, booted up right away with fans blazing, coming down to normal levels after a few second.

Flashed same file again for kicks and removed the powercable, booted right up with slow fans?!?

I could only guess after the reason but it looks like the SMC doesn't like it if the configfile/SMC fw changes without powering off and holds data for some time after removing the powercable.
Anyone wants to shoot at the idea?

Didn't know about the serial output, will make an adapter if all parts are in house :-) 3,3v?

Like Tiros already stated in a post in the XBR thread. You can flash XBR succesfully with KV and config when you use the available xell_hack file for your console. I have successfully flashed my 2 consoles like this. I used the following commands (But all credits go to tiros for pointing me this way)

-Download the xell_hack.bin for your console (I used the zephyr one) from the usual place.
-Download the original XBR xenon_1 file from the usual place.
-Have a backup of your original nand

Use the following commands to make the right image to flash:

nandpro origbackup.bin: -r16 rawkv.bin 1 1
nandpro orig.binbackup: -r16 rawconfig.bin 3de 216
nandpro zephyr_xell_hack.bin: -r16 xellfw.bin 0 40

nandpro XBR.bin: -w16 xellfw.bin 0 40 (Important to do this as the first writing command)
nandpro XBR.bin: -w16 rawkv.bin 1 1
nandpro XBR.bin: -w16 rawconfig.bin 3de 2

Then flash and it should work Smiley

Maybe through process of elimination the issue can be resolved? I noticed it has been commented by one person that the freezing and lag is not experienced when playing from DVD drive with XBR. Maybe the issue is confined to playing games from Hard Disc only? Maybe a test can be done to confirm this?

This is more a reply to the xmas lights then the freezing, just as important because there are xboxes without the config block and probably causing all kind of problems, and maby in some cases freezing.

What i was trying to explain is that i flashed it 3 times with effectively the same Bin files(as a compare was 100%) and that i got 3 different results, and the PIC programmer normally does not make errors while writing/reading.

There is virtually no chance of wireproblems as i use the correct connectors for this project and flashed/backed up a couple of xboxes before this without any problem.

Is there specific data in XELL for the different XBOX models? thought only a different SMC fw was needed for JTAG.

Is it possible that the SMC write protects certain areas(Configblock) of the NAND or writes data to it during/after flashing?

Did exactly this and i get lag on both my consoles, So I really dont think it's caused by bad flashing of XBR.

I use Bayonetta to check if the lag is present or not. There's a chapter (Route 666) that always causes lag, and it doesn't matter if you've been running the game for 10 minutes or not. I tested this on a Xenon running XBR_1. Tried XBR_0, but that didn't seem to make any difference.

NXE install -> lag
Straight from DVD, only MC present -> lag
Removed DVD & SATA-HDD, launched XeXLoader from MC and ran game from 300GB USB ->lag
SATA-HDD present, launched XeXLoader from HDD and ran game from 300GB USB -> lag

On a side note, another game, Samurai Spirits Sen (fighting game) only lags during the loading screens, in-game it's perfect. And the Bayonetta chapter seems to be streaming data heavily from the storage device. I would think AC2 streams in-game data as well. Gonna try SFIV and Tekken 6, I'm fairly certain those two would be perfect in-game as well, since the data is presumably loaded into RAM before the fight begins. Smiley

Edit:
SFIV lags in-game after a few minutes. I have no idea if it's streaming data or not when the lag begins.
Tekken 6 stutters a bit during loads, perfect in-game (HDD seems silent during fights). I should add that I run these from the 300GB USB drive using XeXLoader.

I have not yet received any freezes, I however have only played once for about 30 mins Smiley

I will probably have some time to test a game from usb tommorow.

And yes the flashing was probably more related to christmas lights. However  a lot of people use XBR without the config block according to the XBR thread.
