hmm am I correct in saying you can ONLY get this to boot if its installed onto a memory device which the console detects ? As in you cant get it to boot direct off a usb device ?

Correct. (CD/DVD works too, hence the ISO release)

I have only tried 2 games from USB HDD. The saboteur and Williams pinball, both have freezes and slowdowns after a few minutes. Is there a solution to this problem? Is it related to XEX patching, hardware or XBReebot?

Placebo effect in motion ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVDRead mechanism 650 nm laser, 10.5 Mbit/s (1×) usually the max read speed is around 8x http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usb: 60 MByte/s so lets take 20-30MByte/sec http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sata SATA 300 3,000mbit/sec compare and... --------- The problem with "install games to harddrive" is that it still checks the DVD if its int here && valid.. which slowsss it down.

This is obvious, but comparing the dvd drive to a hard drive is comparing apples and oranges.
I was under the (obviously mistaken) impression that everyone was installing the games to hard drive (why wouldn't you).
I can't see a how any discernible gains can be seen comparing a hard drive install and USB loading.
If anything, I would imagine the hard drive install to load/run faster.

xbox only supports sata1, you do not get any benefit by using sata2. 7200rpm helps though.

I also have the slowdown issue, tried with the JAP Bayonetta on a Falcon console with XBReboot 8955_1, happens after ~10 mins. Also tried copying the game to internal HDD and run from there but it's the same.

Jeah, now I got the same issue.. But only when playing full games. This does not occur on arcade games. Restarting the game solves the problem for a short time.
