and we're supposed to add to that by writing it down every single time someone doesn't feel like researching for a few minutes?

has anyone managed to get wmv videos as previews instead of pngs? i figure i'd also post a few things i've found about this OXM disc as well for any first timers here like i was. its not documented in here it seems. Either way, [ T2game1] type=demo text-t2="<fcolour=white_h>< image=modern-warfare-2.PNG align=right valign=middle type=smooth_w ><fsize=size_heading><vpad=1.4><b> Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2</b><fsize=size_description><fcolour=white_d><br><focus>demo</focus>" path="Games\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2\default.xex"Some basic guidelines you can follow are just that, basic. firstly, T2game1 or T2game2 needs to be crosslinked to the top park of the menu. if you have up to T2game50, there needs to be 50 lines counting up to 50 in: [T2games] type=listmenu flags=list title-t2="<menucolour=menucolour_green>Games" text-t2="<image=games.png align=right valign=middle type=smooth_w><fsize=size_heading>Games<fsize=size_description>Full Version games off your HDD" T2game1 T2game2 T2game3 T2game4 T2game5 T2game6 T2game7 T2game8 T2game9 etc...
the second thing is pointing to your default.xex. jhonny mentioned to me that games need to be in the root of your drive. but this was confirmed as not true with atleast the games folder. as long as you link completely to the folder your fine. that brings me to the 3rd thing kind of tying into the second. < image=modern-warfare-2.PNGwhen linking png images, you do not specify the whole path. png images are stored in the OXMData/pics folder. when you use image.png always put it there. thats about all i had issues with. again, if anyones figured out how to get wmv preview working instead of png images for games fill us in

I can tell you how WMV's work The original OXM disc has two WMV's. Their filenames are pinp.wmv and pinp2.wmv. Each file is a 1920x1080 wmv. When you play the file it looks like a tv station, with many smaller video feeds. I think the finlenames pinp.wmv and pinp2.wmv are hardcoded in the default.xex (just like the paths to the png pics) and inside each game's "tag" there's a reference to a video number rather than video filename. So as you can see in the picture above each video has its number. Depending on the number set in the game's tag is which video will be displayed. The remained of the video feed is masked out. So effectively you have a 480 x 270 preview window on a portion of the large wmv file. So, e.g. the tag from the original menu.ini file states: [T2thebigs2demo1] type=demo text-t2="<fcolour=white_h><video=8 align=right valign=middle type=smooth_w ><fsize=size_heading><vpad=1.4><b>The Bigs 2</b><fsize=size_description><fcolour=white_d><br><focus>demo</focus>" path="79CDD6C041C7AA1471BF9CD3F0A58E2F059B31DF54"
As you can see, the game is "The Bigs 2" and the video tag states: video=8 , and this corresponds to the video in the screenshot Why did they do it like this ? I'm guessing that its much easier for a console to read a single 1080p file and have it "divide" the video streams visually on the fly, rather than reading multiple 480 x 270 files. If there were 15 separate wmv files the dvd drive would go nuts, switching from one side of the disc to the other resulting in significant wear and tear and also probably slowdown so they decided to incorporate all the 480 x 270 video streams into one big one 1920x1080 and mask what they dont need to display. Its the first time ive seen something like this done, very interesting solution. However I dont know if this will allow us to map to individual files. I doubt it. Cause from what i can see there are 2 solutions. The first is putting two single 480x270 wmv's and naming them pinp.wmv and pinp2.wmv. Then you can have 2 video previews for 2 menus. You'd have to use tag video=0 and video=16. Or you could make these "combined" wmv's but then you'd ave a limit of 32 menus/games that you could have video previews for.

seems like alot of work for the videos!
yeah, the one big video is definately for ease of loading. this way the one video is always playing regardless of what game you pick.
i did some more playing around and it appears as though the oxm discs accepts pretty much any size/pixel png. but it does stretch to fit the 480x270 pixel size.

tad bit off topic, and I'm sure it's somewhere on the forums (I've looked) but...
How are games installed to the hdd after it's been modded? I have a data migration kit, so I can connect it to my computer, I'm just not sure where to put it.
I've been trying to get the loader to boot directly from usb sort of like an update does, but the update xex I tried doesn't auto boot from usb to begin with, probably because its too old and doesn't have that feature or because the xbox refuses to recognize it due to it being an old update. My xbox seems to go to e71 error if I try boot with a usb drive inserted.

I would answer your post, but you shouldn't try and use XexLoader yet, there will be a much more feature-filled public release soon that will answer all your questions.

Will there be source? I could learn alot from it and my questions will then be answered. Sounds like the successor to xexloader is going to be a full blown loader. Has anyone resolved the question of loading xex's outside the tree.....as in from a USB drive? \\Device\\Mass0\\root.xex ? usb:\root.xex? and how this relates to xlaunchnewimage()? From what I read, xlaunchnewimage won't load anything from a different place. I didn't catch the punchline from Ski-lleR and Icekillers' bout.

That definitely deserves it's own topic, and I don't think you are going to get much help. Your best bet is going to be waiting for a release to do what you need it to do.

I'm curious about something... I like to use the ingame mp3(via usb) function from the dashboard.
is it still possible to access mp3s that are on the SAME fat32 usb device that the game is being read from ?
(on a side note, it's a shame the 360 doesn't support NTFS, i started using HFS+ so I can have/play my mp3s and 4Gb+ HDvideos on the dashboard, worked fine but support for HFS+ on windows isn't very stable with macdrive, and my HDD ended up corrupted... I don't suppose in game NTFS support for MP3s can be added to the original dashboard via patches/homebrew, right ?)

HFS+ owns, free up some space, create another partition and install OSX 10.6 on your pc with the chameleon2 bootloader:P It's blazing fast and it'll manage your hfs+ drives just fine ^_^

I understand. You found paradise in America, you had a good trade, you made a good living. The police protected you and there were courts of law. And you didn't need a friend like me. But, uh, now you come to me, and you say: "Don Corleone, give me justice." But you don't ask with respect. You don't offer friendship. You don't even think to call me Godfather. Instead, you come into my house on the day my daughter is to be married, and you ask me to do murder for money.

Because that's the only way to manage hfs+ partition in a stable way (using MacOSX that is). Both the linux hfs+ driver and macdrive can cause it to corrupt. Although it's indeed a bit offtopic suggesting to install it on your computer I guess.
