Yeah, I just noticed that after my post by reading Tmbinc's lflash readme.  In there he also mentions not using the tool for full image writes.

http://free60.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=free60/tools;a=blob_plain;f=lflash/README;hb=HEAD

Hmm... maybe flashing this hack from Linux won't work after all.  I was really trying to avoid soldering the wires for the nand flashing.

Well if the last 0.5MB of the flash is reserved for bad blocks there can't be any useful data there presumably.  What about cutting the last 0.5MB of the nand image then using lflash?

@Redline: Would you mind clarifying why it wouldn't work just for my interest.

My understanding (which is no doubt wrong!) is that lflash writes a block and if the block is bad the nand controller automatically remaps it to the last 0.5MB of the nand.  I note that the end of the xbr nand image is empty so there is definitely no useful info there, so I'm just confused why it wouldn't work.

grab xextool from xbins, extract the rar contents to the same folder as your emulator.
rename the emulators xex to default.xex.

open a cmd window, CD to the folder with the emulator and xextool.
type:
xextool -r a -m d default.xex

press enter.

then delete xextool from the folder, and burn the contents to dvd.
I've been using udf 2.50 in imgburn, not sure if other file systems work.

Can someone with a working jtag (in case the Linux software flash doesn't work) try flashing the XBReboot image using Linux/lflash? It would save those of us who can currently get into Linux using the KingKong exploit a lot of time.  I would try it but if it doesn't work, I won't be able to get back into Linux without soldering the jtag/lpt to my Xbox.

Thanks.

that problem is familiar as i have repaired a few faulty nands for ppl on here and 1 guy had the same problem as you and it was down to his KV file being damaged in the nand! try hexediting the kv from ur good nand and paste it in it the XBR Image!

Why do you need his CPU key?
You don't need your CPU key to patch XBReboot with your KV

I couldn't get xbreboot to work so I figured I should try start from the beginning.  I tried to flash my original nand dump back onto my xbox but when it was flashing I got "error 258 could not read block 1"  in nandpro.  I assume this is a bad block, but a few bad blocks here and there are ok... but when I tried it after the flashing It just boots up with one solid green led in the middle.  The same thing happened when I tried to run my xbox with xbrebooter (maybe the led was blinking, I don't remember for sure.)

will xbreboot and my original nand dump not work because I have the jtag stuff hooked up for xell?  Should I remove those diodes and the jumper?

Anyone having problems getting XBReboot to run higher than 480p? In the settings it says I need to switch the AV/HDTV switch to HDTV even thou it is, it works normally on another console.

I thought it might be something to do with XBR being based on NTSC so flashed my config blocks but that didn't sort it  Huh
