so what you're saying is MISO needs to be pulled up during bootup to get status to 0x72 then pulled down for read? I'm probably totally off the mark here though, from the decap it looks like a few wires run to the top left diagonal pin that doesn't come out of the controller, I tried grinding it down and playing with it, it sparked a bit so I left it at that hehe. Guess i'll just wait for further hints/instructions.

Why wouldn't an inline spst (mom) do the job one side on the pin the other on the pcb (having lifted the pin)

thats not modfreakz problem, it will be done when its ready, he dont care what you promised to your people, also what you want? start modding 93 consoles with ixtreme 1.6 spoofed?  if you dont know that will send their just purchased units to a direct ban, so lets wait.

Stop bothering people that actually do something for the scene with stupid request !

There are no excuses for this whining behavior .

I'm more interested in the work/method of the dump than anything, watching this thread with anticipation.

Sorry, clearly my post was miss-interpreted, I was just trying to get an opinion on my take as I'm keen to have a go at one of the new ones and as it happens I don't have long before I have to send the box back. I was thinking something along the lines of an SPDT- 5v on one throw, a resistor to pull low on the other. As I gather it appears I'll still have to wait to be showen the rest regarding ATA commands etc. anyway (but I would like to understand as much as possible) forgive me If I'm hard to follow as digital aint really my thing (I'm an RF/comms tech). I see the need to be cryptic but I've found the above a little confusing. I don't mean to add spam to the thread or anything ... 'If there is something I can do for the scene eg beta testing pl let me know but I guess you have that covered.Once again sorry...

Today I made some progress too. I was able to dump the O-FW of a 74850. So here is how it works (although I just tried it with one drive til now):

-Lift pin 101 and 122
-solder a cable to pin 100, pin 101 and one to 3,3V
-use a 2-way switch which either connects 101 to 3,3V or to 100
-put the switch into the position so that it connects 100 to 101
-power drive
-start Dosflash, it will recognise the SPI with Status x72
-if you read it out now, it will just give you a .bin full of FFFFFFFF, but thats OK, this is how we tricked the Flash Controller to think the SPI is empty
-put the switch in the other position (so that 101 is connected to 3,3V)
-now read the flash

---> Voila, you got your dump!

Maybe someone else is going to give it a try, would be nice to get some feedback. For today my tests are finished, its pretty late....

Oh yes, and of course: no warranty at all, I even fried one drive myself a few days ago, when I was performing some tests. I suppose working on it a 4:30 in the morning obviously wasn´t the best idea...

O lord, if this is the way we need to dump drives from now on...I can see forums FLOODED with posts saying "I FUXORZED MY LIFTING OF PINS PLOX HELP ME KTHKXBAI"

yeah lowering the default reading speed from 12x to let's say 5x, would really let GTA4 (or any of your games) benefit from way less popups and loading times.
damn!

n00bpwner360: Remember teh good old ms28 Daye where ist was really easy to solder. But this is about 3 levels up, but it won't stop kidz to try this i think. Hopefully the Epoxy removal stop them from trying this...

I would NEVER recommend someone to do this if he doesn´t know exactly what he´s doing!!! I just wanted to let you know about it in this early stage because all what happened in the scene in the last month really pisses me off...

For now, even if you get the dump, I see no way to get the key out of it, cause it is still encrypted, but there has to be a way to deal with that too. But first we need more O-FW dumps. So if someone else dumped his drive the same way, send me your dump!

Can you flash the dump back to the drive and have it still work without knowing how to decrypt it?

I see people can not wait few days and poking in the dark.
Really a shame.

(short from 1,8V to 3,3V)
If you like kill your drive so go on.
