Fairly simple question - Can the LiteOn's flash (any version) be erased and rewritten one block at a time, or does the entire flash have to be reset/erased before anything new can be written?
Sorry to start an entire thread for this, but I searched through tons of other threads and couldn't find an answer.

Well why would you want to do it one bank at a time for? Is there a particular reason or are you just wondering because as far as I know there is no way to do it one at a time. If Im wrong then somebody else correct me.

I figure that you probably can't erase one bank at a time, as well. But I just thought I'd ask. The reason I ask is because if it were possible to erase banks selectively even when stock firmware was loaded, then it would be possible to erase the bank containing the reset vector and upload a very simple program which dumped the rest of the flash, and hence the key. The other possibility, if selective erases were possible, would be to write a firmware which knew where the stock dvd key was located, and just worked around it without ever actually reading they key out to the outside world, and just using it from its stock location. But as you pointed out, it probably can't be done, so it's moot. Plus, the idea is so simple that I'd think someone would have already done it if it were possible. |

unfortunately, when the drive was first hacked, i seem to remember reading that the drive can only be flashed if its completely empty. that is a very clever idea, but i don't think it is possible to do what you are describing (although someone who knows more about it than me will probably confirm that).

Well... I have a clue they can. I have close friends that send in their modded 360's because of RROD, BenQ, T/S, Lite Ons, and with some of them their own drives returned, still with their own modded drive they could play their backups instantly. So... MS puts the key from the new motherboard in hacked firmwares. Strange but true. They just don't notice and they don't flash the firmware completely. |

Uhm, no. MS copies over the keyvault to the new motherboard.
Mostly so you don't lose all your downloaded stuff and have to use the DRM tool.

The dvdkey is stored in the kv you fool, microsoft will simply flash the key sector in the drive fw afterward. |

If can just rewrite KV in FW, i mean in LiteONs, then we should be able to change key in original LiteOn FW, but we can't. And because we don't have a backup of LiteOn original FW, so far we can't un-mod a LiteOn.

So... If MS copies over that keyvault to the new motherboard, why then do 360's return with the old flashed DVD drive in it, new motherboard, but with a totally other key in that iXtreme firmware, put in there by MS? I've not noticed that once with some close friends, but a couple of times already... |

Maybe LiteOn hard to understand how to change KV, but in Summy and Lg they must can.
So MS has ability to flash DVD drive FW (just key or a block) from the console, then they can flash hacked fw back to original. The strange thing is they never do it, am I right?
