I currently have a Falcon XBOX 360 with a BenQ drive flashed with iXtreme v1.6.

The XBOX 360 has NOT been updated with the Linux possibility killing JTAG exploit update. - This was initiated by Microsoft earlier this summer.

Upon attempting to load any Wave 4 game (such as Tekken 6) I am prompted with a message demanding that I update the console with a dashboard update in order for the game to run.

Am I right in thinking that if I apply this update on the wave 4 Tekken 6 DVD game I will be unable to apply the JTAG exploit? (I'm currently in the process of collecting the relevant equipment...)

If my understaing is correct, would it be possible to take a Wave 4 image and patch the DVD Video/PFI/SS partition with that of an earlier wave game? (e.g. Wave 3) so that I need not apply this update. It is my understanding that it is this modified Video partition in which the dashboard update is stored.

This patching would be similar to that carried out when Wave 3 hit and Wave 3 games were being patched with Wave 2 information to run on iXtreme 1.4 rev flashed consoles.

Any information would be gladly appreciated,

Many Thanks

Yes wave 4 will kill the jtag hack.

While what you are planning is somewhat possible. Some games require the update, its not just arbitrary.
