What should I do? Advice needed (to upgrade or not to upgrade)

Hi, since newbie topics are welcome in this subforum, here is my question:

I have just bought an jasper arcade 512mb  liteon 74850c, extracted drive key and flashed ixtreme 1.6 in it.
This was done for me. I have also put a 60gb hd into it.

For this machine, I have never gone into live AND never will,
I do not intend to play on live, just backups.
Also do not want to do jtag hack etc..

But I am afraid of losing hdd funcionality, as I consider it useful and it helps increase dvd drive life.

Problem is, I have put an backup copy of Batman Arkhan Asylum on it to play on hdd,
it asked to upgrade, I didnt. Then i deleted the game from the HDD.I think it installed the update on the onboard memory (it has not upgraded yet).
If I try to delete the upgrade, it says it is going to prevent me from going live.
I think at this point it wants to upgrade and blow efuses etc.If I delete the upgrade on the onboard memory (using the Y button option), does it blow the efuses also?
Should I remove r6t3?

The most important  questions:
1) Can I proceed with the upgrade?
2) What kernel will I have if the upgrade is the original from the Batman Arkhan Asylum?
3) If I do this, will I lose hdd funcionality somehow?
4) Other than not being possible to downgrade anymore, is there any side effect of this?

(The only thing I would like to do with this machine is to upgrade to the ixtreme LT firmware when available, and play as many backups
as possible, retaining hdd funcionality. I have an unmodded xbox for playing originals on live.)

which kernel do you run on it? Reading on the net seems that it should upgrade to 7371 - a jtaggable kernel - but i would taking any responsability

You mean that retail Batman Arkhan Asylum has upgrade to 7371 and not 8XXX?

Since you're not planning on going on LIVE and not wanting to get homebrew in any way( since you don't want to do the JTAG hack), go ahead and update, you only lose the functionality if you are getting banned which only can occur when you go on LIVE (which you weren't going to do anyway)
