I think this is a critical point for the JTAG hack, I think many people could lost their interest on it and the possibilities are not clear.
Many people have gone off Live for about 3 months now (like myself with my gold membership) so we don't update our consoles, but now the new games are coming with update too, So many people are being left with an outdated not very functional console, Now the problem is that with the big games coming in the holidays, I know many people are going to jump the gun and update so they can play the newest games on Live (CODMW2 anybody?) and the JTAG HACk will eventually die.
My concern with the wonderful people that have been working on this project is the following: what do you think could be accomplish someday with this hack so people would keep their interest on this and keep waiting.
I know many people when they think about xbox 360 homebrew imagine a console with a costume dashboard, with applications like XBMC, a bunch of emulators of their favorite consoles, a way to have their game collection on a Hard drive, etc. all those things that did the original xbox a wonderful place. But would that happen someday with the xbox 360?

Uhmm... All I know about JTAG hack was for recover the DVD key from key lost MOB under 8XXX update and for the person who want to use homebrew. For right now unable to hack the 8XXX. Will be soon. We are waiting for long time to hack 7XXX. 8XXX was just came out less than 60 days. Any way I love JTAG to recover lost key. I'm enjoy it. I had bought about 25 RROD MOB without DVD Key. And I got 7 alive. The rest was hardware failure. But still I got alot of spare parts. I think JTAG furure was very good. Thanks for JTAG team.

For right now unable to hack the 8XXX. Will be soon.
This will never happen, unless an new exploit is discovered (which is not likely), or for someone to release a rebooter, which is also not likely.

The new update installs a new bootloader, which will block 4532 and 4548 from booting. Therefore, unless a similar new exploit is discovered in a future dashboard, there are no hope.

So, If (as you say) a rebooter is likely never going to be released, New hacking posibilies are thin and Libxenon is far from being completed, What is all the Hype about?, Why everybody is waiting for something that itīs not going to be released, keeping them from use their system?. Donīt get me wrong, I really admire hackers and their work but maybe itīs time to release some kind of information related to the "State of things" and/or "what is more likely to happen"... or at least it would be good to know the opinion of some of the "master hackers" of the forum.

The state of things is well known. You can run the JTAG hack on all hardware except for Jasper (which will come eventually). You can run Xell to retrieve CPU/DVD key and run Xell/Linux apps. To run unsigned XEX we need a hacked rebooter/loader that will run unsigned code we compile in the SDK. That rebooter has many challenges and is not currently on the horizon. Without that you cannot play games with a hacked dashboard, run XBMC, etc. Three months ago you could not even run Xell on most xbox hardware, now you can. That *IS* something. The hobbyists just want something to play around with on the Xbox. Linux offers a lot of opportunities for hobbyists. If you think we'll eventually have custom dashes, then go buy another exploitable console before they're gone (and tuck it away for the future) and keep your main console for gaming as usual.

Agreed. No matter how you look at it, this is the safest thing to do at the moment, and arcades are dirt cheap compared to launch date prices.

there are rebooters.. but people who have it, won't share it as confirmed by someone on this forum who's much more credible then me
there are people that can play ISO directly from HDD, without the need of the disc
the current homebrew is nice, but will die out eventually, possibilities with a homebrew enabled console are poor to none for the end-user and don't spark much interest in the end-user if you're unable to use your games library on that console, and untill we see awesome homebrew for the 360, it'll be an X amount of time.. by that time homebrew enabled consoles will be rare, unless a new sploit for the 8xxx dash will come
surely most end-users with a 360 are not going to buy a second just for it to have homebrew capabilities, because how that looks as of now it doesn't seem interesting ..yet..
so i doubt a 360 homebrew scene get really big oneday

I think that without the ability to go buy a new console off the shelf and exploit it, combined with no hacked dashboard means 360 homebrew might not reach the critical mass required to truly open the flood gates for a wide variety of functional software.
For now, it's limited to hacking hobbyists. I still hope one day it will truly be a platform for homebrew enthusiasts but we're still a long ways from that. All we've done is reopen a 2 year old exploit across a much larger pool of console hardware.
