I have got a Samsung SH-D162D with Kreon firmware as a reader, which works great, but my Sony Optiarc RW is proving to be a bit hit-and-miss with the burning side of things.

Is there any particular SATA DVD DL Writer that is considered better than the rest for creating backup's?

I also read that it is useful for it to have 'bit-setting', but am not sure what this does or how it aids backing up my games.

I know that Pioneer is usually considered good, and I searched around for the Pioneer DVR-117/217, but strangely have found it to be out of stock or no longer for sale in most places in the UK. Is the 116/216 just as good, or are there any other recommendations?

Just about any Pioneer is good.

Thanks for the reply's guys, looks like a Pioneer it is then. What about that 'bit-setting' feature that I mentioned, any info on what it does, and do the Pioneer drives have it?

bit setting is not essential anymore its from back in the day when you had to set the booktype to DVD-ROM from DVD+R DL this was covered by the ixtreme hack in a later version.
