So I got my older Xbox 360 here with a Hitachi drive in it (which probably doesn't matter) and was just able to fix its red ring by doing a X-Clamp when I finally get it going I try to test my Live Connection. It said it couldn't connect but asked me to update the dashboard. I agree and then it fails seconds later with a general message saying that it can't connect and to do what I was just doing to get it. Finally I decide to get the dashboard update from M$ site and put it on a USB stick as they suggest on the site.

That goes through and installs the update. The system restarts and asks me for a storage device (which I don't have). So I click continue and it keeps insisting, eventually I cancel the update hoping it would work or use the old dashboard. Now turn on the Xbox 360 and E71. I tried using the sync button and power and the only difference I see it sometimes the loading logo gets a little shorter/longer in loading before the E71 pops up.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I was feeling that something went wrong with some software on it. Of course M$ claims its a hardware error and said it was just coincidence that it happen that the time I updated the dashboard (BS I say). Any way to attempt to fix this, would using an updated dashboard hard drive from a friend work by chance cause it has the hard drive side of the software help?

I put in a friends hard drive with the newest NXE and same old same old.

Just checked with my friend (who previously owned it) and seems I might have found the root of the issue. Turns out he played it on LIVE about 1 month ago so afaik that would need to have the newest dashboard. The file I got off the Xbox site and attempted to run on it was "$SystemUpdate_Fall08_7371.zip", which I am not sure if it has the patches but I think it is just the oldest Fall update with no patches?

So the issue is most likely caused from it going through with the update that was actually a downdate. So something seemed to go wrong with going from that newer version (1 month ago) to the update on M$ site.

EDIT: FIXED IT. Great stuff I finally figured it out, simply occurred to me it was somewhat downgraded so why not just upgrade it again. Of course M$ site didn't have the newest dashboard it was only from LIVE but found it from Google of ""2.0.8498.0.rar". Then I just put that on a USB stick booted it up and all went according to plan and its running perfect now.
