it looks like this dosent work with the xbr update, ive had 3 customers come to me telling me after they flash 8955_3 the console wont turn on and nandpro wont detect the flash controller.

im hoping this isent gonna be a major problem (and need a software update), i will try one myself later today.

Shorting some of the data pins with a screwdriver while power is pulled, then putting in the power plug and waiting another 3 seconds before removing the short will allow the nand to be detected again.. it's merely a bad flash.

Pins 41-44, for example: http://www.hynix.com/datasheet/pdf/flash/HY27US%2808_16%29281A%20Series%28Rev0.6%29.pdf
Also, after flashing you should unplug the console for at least 20 seconds so all SMC data is cleared out.
If you get E79 or E71, reflash, you likely got a write error due to interference or whatever.

41-44, 44-47 will not work. The guy apparently can not count, since the image clearly shows 41-44 being data pins.

ColtB45: thanks for your confirmation Smiley teaching ones self doesn't always lead to clear answers...

ChaoZ: when I was breadboarding this the first time I had some issues with random disconnects, basically some pins are set to be open collectors such as MCLR (which was the 10k I had missed initially) and anything from touching a wire to jarring the desk would cause the pin to detect something else - are you sure you have pull up/down in all the right places? Also be sure you didn't wind up with a cross cut xtal, apparently those don't work so good with PIC even with the added resistor.

edit:/
Grim187: yes I saw your post regarding misflash, it's already been answered by Arakon Wink

You know whats funny; I did the exact same thing (breadboard'ing and having it work) and then realized I was missing the 10k on my first board layout.

.....And yes, using a 100pf cap could easily account for the issue....
Thanks for the info you were right they did cause the device to not startup at all. Replaced them for 18pf caps according to the formula for my crystal and it all worked immediatly.
Kinda stupid i didn't look into that before i put them there but i'm learning every day here!

Sorry if this has already covered but I need to clarify if I need to do the following in order to be able to flash the initial bootloader onto the pic.

Do I need to ground pin 26 to ground via a 10k resistor to be able to write to the pic?  I am currently able to read without error but when I try to write I get verify errors.

I am using a JDM PIC Programmer with WinPic.  I tried using WinPic800 but it would not read the data of the pic.

I am trying to program the PIC 18F2455-I/SP prior to building it on s readboard.

Thank you,
RJ

you should be able to program it without that resistor.
your port may not be able to supply enough power to write, try using an additional power supply (i.e. from USB).

I suggest using a crystal + caps instead of resonator.

So i am using a usb spi that grim 187 made but i cant figure out whats wrong ive patched the xbr file and everything when i load nandpro to flash it wont. when the usb is plugged into the pc it says found new hardware then it says there was a problem or malfunction and then i went to the driver and it says unknown driver. i tryed pointing it to the config.inf for the driver but gives an error... im running windows vista 32bit and ive installed the port95 tryed both with compatiablity mode and without. Also I tryed it on my 64bit win7 labtop and its a no go. But since its home cannot do the xp emulator and I am stuck waiting for my lady to bring her xp labtop. Any ideas to why it isnt working. I also tryed turning off driver liscening on vista.  Huh Im so confused. Also if your wondering how I have the orignal bin for kv and nand config ect it was provided. I belive grim used the spi and it worked for him fine.

Either works, #1 is smaller. Also, 2 33pf ceramic caps.

@mafiafan: sounds like a wire came off, or the flasher is broken.
