So, after an entire day of replacing x-clamps, applying and re-applying thermal paste, adjusting tightness on screws, baking, alternate bakes, and even trying with different washer configurations. I can't get this dang dreaded 0020 to disappear.
I didn't have the cash for reflow service or a heat gun, so I attempted the "oven reflow" using this tutorial.

http://xbox-experts.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=968

After letting it cool down. I took off all of the insulation, and it turns out I blew a few caps. No big deal, I can replace those easily.
However, the thing that is bothering me is that I put it together with the blown caps and it still reads the 0020 and quickly hits 2 lights with 0012. I assume the overheating is because I didn't apply AS5 and mount the heatsinks. Still that 0020 is there, and it's troublesome.
I figured since the caps were blown I would receive a different error than 0020. Unless, of course, that is the error that would be shown for the caps?
I'm going to replace them soon hopefully and see if that helps at all. 0020 haunts me, even 3 days later. haha

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Lol. Thanks for the quick and extremely helpful reply. Honestly, that might be the best advise anyone has given me.
It's too bad I'm poor.

He's right, though. Some consoles are simply not fixable with the xclamp fix, the RROD isn't just "bad solder spots" afterall. It might just as well be an internally damaged GPU, a broken trace beneath it, etc.

Stop sticking your xbox in the oven to try repairing it! <-best advice

if you havent caused any more damage already you may still be able to rescue it with a reflow, what temps did you stick your oven at? (cant be bothered reading what it suggested) apart from your blown caps, u may well still have a working board come out of this.

Yah, I agree. Basically a desperate last attempt. Not sure I'm 100% ready to give up yet.

Temps and Timings:

1:00 150°C(302°F)
1:20 180°C(356°F)
1:00 210°C(410°F)
4:00-4:30 230°C(446°F)

I would say that you have done very little damage really in that case, @ 230c the non leaded solder is not fluid, just extremely hot. For me to remove a gpu/cpu safely takes 355c which is alot hotter than your oven. That should totally explain why this did not cure your problem for you!

I Really REALLY hate putting this, but as you are totally skint and you have already gone into desperate dan mode. Try the heatgun method. Paint strippers, can achieve the temps needed, would suggest preheating the complete board up and going slowly mind and dont go to close. you only need to borrow one after all.

Thanks for the awesome info guys. I got really tired of messing with it so I packed it up and put it away for another day.
On a lighter note, I just went out and bought a Pro. I really hate paying MS for faulty products. Grr

Thanks again.

Lol! Honestly .. I don't have the cash. Had to finance it and it's most likely a bad decision on my part.  Lips Sealed
