I browsed the site for awhile looking for the same issue but couldn't find it. Plus if I search for "benq", nothing comes up, which shouldn't be.

Anyway, heres the problem and what I have tried.

I put any game in and the xbox doesn't recognize the game. You can here the drive run for a moment then stop.

I pulled the drive apart and watched it as the xbox does its pre-test on initial power up. The laser turns on and the disc motor lifts and spins for a moment. I tried cleaning the laser with alcohol, but it didn't work.

So now I need to figure out if it's the laser or the drive's circuit board at fault.

I have very little experience actually diagnosing lasers and such, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

try a music cd, if that works its more than likely just your laser needs replacing

try cleaning laser with alchol if works then means its laser, or open the case and watch what your drive does.
