The 1.6 iXtreme firmware mentions support for SS v2.  Is this something that the ripper program must be updated to take advantage of, or do they simply recieve whatever SS the firmware spits out without having to specifically ask for and accept v2?

If they must be updated to handle this, is there a ripping program that currently does?  I see no mention of v2 in either XBC or Schtrom360Extract's readmes.

Afaik the latest xbc is compatible with ssv2, but redline99 might want to answer that one. All ssv2 is, is more stored responses to types 5 and 7, the timing related ones. It's only something that c4eva does and is not part of original ss.bins, and is kinda useless imho. Also afaik Kreon fws haven't been updated for this.

This only depends on the firmware of the drive doing the rip. If you rip with an iXtreme 1.6+ 0800 you will get SSv2. If you rip with Kreon, currently you only get SSv1. This is not effected by the ripping software, just what the drive/firmware can read.

It doesn't only depend on the firmware. The ripping app has to support the new api for doing ssv2. Redline has confirmed that the latest Xbox Backup Creator 2.9+ supports ssv2 when using ix1.6 and future implementations. The Kreon firmwares will only do SSv1 unless there is an updated firmware. So CrUnc}{eR's advice was not accurate, use xbc 2.9 to rip.

Kreon rips are done the same as they have always been.  SSv1, SSv2, etc. are c4eva implementation versions and are backwards compatible.  Kreons are a variant of SSv1 that emulates some timing values, but have sofar been ok to use.

I'm not sure its clear, though you do need XBC 2.9 to work with 1.6, but Im not sure if its specifically to rip SSv2.

I just told you, and it is very clear. You said, "This is not effected by the ripping software, just what the drive/firmware can read."  which is wrong. SSv2 is only supported in the latest xbc, and is absolutely dependent on the ripping software. I also stated why. Before answering questions, do your research.

I suppose "Added - Support for iXtreme 1.6 Liteon" could have implied SSv2 being that it's a feature of 1.6, but it wasn't clear to me.  Thanks for the clarity Intersect.  I use XBC anyway, so I'm good.

Also, I noted that the liteon read straight through a disc that my Kreon kept getting read errors on.  It wasn't scratched, but the Kreon would get about half way and error out.  I thought I had a bum pressed disc, but it worked in the box and I didn't want to have to return it.  Odd...

I've ripped all my games with the Kreon drive until just a few weeks ago.  It got errors in the same spot on that disc three times in a row.  I re-ripped two of my old games with it just fine.  They're all pretty much spotless, thanks to all you guys. Smiley

I guess I picked a good time to buy that liteon, huh?
