hi, just wanted to say thank for the tutorial.  i was able to fix my 120gig drive.  i have a gigabyte mobo and as soon as i plug the xbox drive the sata controller resizes it and xbox no longer detects it.

one thing that i discovered is that on my xbox using the hddss.bin that i dumped using hddhackr which is 4kb doesnt work.  looking at winhex, the hddhackr dump starts at location 8000, in my case there is data at location 2000.  i can only assume that checksum at the end on the hddhackr dump is calculated from the beginning of the drive and not from location 8000.  Fortunately i used xport 360 to backup 1st 16kb before i trashed everything.  using this dump i was able to get things working.

another thing i noticed and sometimes (randomly) when you run NHPA it says it succeeded on the 1st try.  tried plugging it into the xbox and it drive doesnt get detected.  i found that sometime i would need to run nhpa once or twice to get it to FAIL.  then you disconnect power, plug it back in and run nhpa again.  now xbox detects the drive.

overall, i'm glad i found this, as it saved me so much trouble.  now every time i plug the xbox drive into my pc, i run nhpa before i disconnect and the drive is usable in the xbox.  sweet!.

Hooked up my 120GB HDD via transfer cable, xplorer 360 only saw 2 partitions (0 and 2). I did absolutely nothing to the drive at all, just hooked it up to see the files. Well now my 360 won't recognize the drive. YAY! I have tried 4 different computers, but MHDD will not detect my Fujitsu HDD even though I can see it when I look at the bios settings before hand. I've tried almost every method I can think of via google searches and I still can't get MHDD to see my drive so I can run NHPA to remove HPA.

What can I do here? I am not about to lose 3 years worth of data just because stupid ass xplorer360 blows a major nut. Please help. Thanks everyone.

Ok.........finally ordered some Torx bits to help me open the drive and hook it up via sata (rather than USB trasnfer kit) and I finally got MHDD to detect my drive. But here goes MORE fun!! I did the tutorial to the T and my 360 still says the drive is unformatted. What gives? I am so beyond frustrated now it's ridiculous.

If your 360 detects the hdd and says its unformatted then the tutorial worked, but somehow previously you managed to screw up the data format on it.
You will need to restore the drive from a backup file and proceed with the tutorial again.

I dont think a USB Migration kit will work. I've tested this with PCI SATA cards too and that doesn't work either. You will have to plug the hdd directly into the motherboard SATA ports Sad

you will only need hddss.bin if you're using a stock standard xbox

if you're using a jtagged xbox, all the security is irrelevant.

so i have my hddss.bin for my seagate 20gb, ive gotten to #22 of tutorial 1 now technical knowledge is stopping me, im not thick this is just really new to me:

23. Restart the PC booting off the MHDD bootable CD or USB stick. (you may need to make changes in the BIOS to boot off CD or USB stick)
24. If MHDD doesn't start automatically for you, or you're using a USB Boot disk type: MHDD and press enter

can anyone tell me how to make a bootable usb stick? i have one...have formatted it and set my bios to open it on start-up. but alas DOS is greek to me and have no idea how to make mhdd run or use c:\> work with vista 32. ive figured out how to make a startup usb stick but have no idea how. ill be picking up a sata data/power cable tomorrow(using the ones off my dvd drive for now) and wondering if the iso just burned straight onto a disk is sufficient to boot the program or is there another trick to making it run.

any links, pm's or comments would be sweet.

one other thing: once this hdd is reformatted with the serial from the xbox it came with, will it be usable with xbox live?

thx guys this site rocks!!
