I have a liteon which is in working order except r709 is missing. I want to use the drive in an xbox/ my soldering skills are ok. Cn i just bridge the point and it will work fine of not? If not what do i need and is it easily available(in UK)

sure, but they're much larger and there's a risk of tearing off the entire track, so you will have to be very careful and glue it down with hotglue afterwards.
if you can handle SMD resistors, you should get SMD ones, they'll be a direct replacement.

thanks for the help.

I have the resistors now. Both pads where r709 is are destroyed. I relise you can sodler it to the hole below the pad. Problem is the solder does not stick to the hole. Is there any other alternative points for r709 which are easier to solder?
