I type hddhackr -f and it does nothing. What am I doing incorrectly. You aren't typing in the command completely. Note the set example: HDDHACKR F 09F0 A0 HDDSS.BIN UNDO.BIN You need to supply a port, and the input/output. If I type this string HDDHACKR F 09F0 A0 HDDSS.BIN UNDO.BIN you saying it should work? I am trying to learn how, so thanks for helping me out.

Hi, I was looking for some software that will let me read and flash the firmware on WD Drives (not Xbox related), and came across HDDhackr mentioned on quite a few forums.
I have read though this thread and others on different sites, but have a few unanswered questions as they are not really Xbox related.
I didn't want to pm Team MODFREAKz directly, so thought I would ask here first.
Is there a way to create an UNDO.BIN file without attempting to flash the drive first? I need to extract the firmware so that I can edit it. I can probably work around this, but it would be better if I could just read the firmware without making any changes to the drive.
Does the command HDDHACKR R 09F0 A0 UNDO.BIN make any alterations to the partitions or sectors of the disk?
Does anyone know if HDDHackr can also read and flash 3.5" Western Digital Caviar Green drives, WD10EADS for example?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Peter.

I figured it out. I had to go into my bio's and switch from raid to ide and it worked like a charm. I am now having problems coping partition 3 from the original hard drive. I try to drag and drop the files from the 20gb hd to a separte folder and xplorer360 locks up.

Xplorer360 is a bit buggy and sometimes gets stuck in a infinite loop. Try copying only the files without subdirectories, create the folders manually...a bit of work but works when xplorer gets stuck.

That worked for transfering my old files from my old hd, but when I try to drag and drop single files from the 20gb hd, xplorerbev360 won't let them transfer.

Hey everybody, I hate to be the one with questions, but since v1.20 is claimed to be working with VIA chipsets, and I am still unable to make it work, here it goes: I`ve booted into DOS, started v1.20, found the correct hard drive, and I chose to flash it with HDDSS.bin. This is the screen I get: Data from selected Hard Drive Manufacturer: WDC WD1200BEVS-75LAT0 Serial Number: WD-WXC706... Firmware Rev: 02.06M02 LBA: 2314...
Data from Xbox 360 hddss.bin file Manu: Fujitsu... SN: NZ2... Firmware rev: 00930013 New LBA: 23444...
Information in file hddss.bin does NOT... |
Furthermore, I am being asked if I wan to flash Xbox360 compatible FW, I reply Y Then, I get asked whether or not I want to create the three partitions. I prefer replying Y, but I`ve also replied N, in order for me to manually create these partitions later on. However, after I`ve answered these two questions, I get the blinking "_" underneath the questions. What is wrong, and what can I do? Any help is appreciated!

hdd hackr does not dump the whole fw image only a sector that contains an encrypted file containing drive information, then it flashes this to the same sector within the WD drive, not overwriting the whole image just one sector so therefore it is useless for your purpose.

Thanks very much for the helpful reply. At this stage I only want to play with Model Number & Firmware revision so the drive can report itself as a different model. Looking at sample UNDO.BIN's I have seen posted this info is contained in the file generated by hddhackr @ 0x0020 & 0x0028. To be safe, would you know if running the "HDDHACKR F 09F0 A0 HDDSS.BIN UNDO.BIN" command without having a HDDSS.BIN file in the directory would first create the UNDO.BIN I am after before it realises the HDDSS.BIN file is missing? I hope to try this next week once I get a small test drive. Peter.

I hope to try this next week once I get a small test drive. Peter. I have found a 160gb test drive I can play with, so have been able to answer a couple of my own questions. I have found HDDHACKR is smart enough to know this is not a 360 drive and it fails with an invalid checksum when trying to Dump sector 16-22 for me to look at. A good safety check for 360 users. I also tried flashing but HDDHACKR realises there is no HDDSS.BIN before it creates the UNDO.BIN file I need. Is there a way I can either bypass the checksum test or just force the creation of UNDO.BIN so I can see if the drive info is stored in similar areas? As a last resort I could probably flash using a found or fake HDDSS.BIN to get my UNDO.BIN file, then restore straight away. But I would prefer not to risk writing to the drive just to read the sectors off. Peter.

...why don't you use a hexeditor to directly get those sectors?

Thanks, Just firing up win hex now...
I didn't know if HDDHACKR did anything other than copy the sectors.
