So, I recently overcame my RRoD on my 360. Excited as all get out, I went to test it out and noticed that the center led was flashing non-stop, which I know means the dvd drive wasn't connected. I tore it apart to check it, found it was connected, checked for loose wires and tried again...to no luck. I've been trying whatever I can think of for the past three days, to no luck. I've looked this issue up in multiple forums and found little to no good information about what is happening. I have found one and only one forum that suggests that the I/O port on the mother board could be fried.
As for the actually symptoms of the problem, my drive won't open, close, or read anything. My dash board will say opening, closing, reading and all that mess when you push the button, but the drive acts as if it has no power. I've checked the power cable and I think it's good. I've switched sata cables and know that's not the problem. From what I've seen on the forum, the console isn't receiving any signal from the drive as to its status, so it acts as if it's not connected. I don't know how to fix it (not all the technical terms, such as I/O, I just know what it is) and would greatly appreciate any and all help that is contributed to this topic

It sounds like the drive is dead rather than the southbridge

So if the drive is dead, then how would I get the ID key off the drive to flash to a new one?

Buy the exact same model drive and change the mother board inside with the new one. Hopefully this will work as it has the key on it.

it's better if you actually dump the key yourself

In order to dump the key the drive has to have power doesn't it? So if it's not getting power from the xbox when I link it up with my pc, where is it going to get it from? As far as I know, you need to leave the power cable connected to it and the xbox's mother board while linking the sata cable in order to get it into Mode B.

Your drive shouls still have power but if it is flashing like everyone else said it basically is dead as you or the person that tried to mess with it killed it,, so best would be to remove the flash chip or try to restore it back to its original state,

You would more then likely have to remove the flash chip and use a reader/programmer and restore it that way, or if you could get it back in mode b on your pc and know your dvd key then you could try but it may be dead.

Ok, so if I need to get a new drive, does it need to be the exact same model? And where can I buy a reader/programmer board?

Ok yeah, so the drive won't even open when I try to get it into Mode B. Still acts like it has no power so I guess I'm just gonna have to pull the chip and read it....except I don't know which chip it is or how to read it or anything.

Why don't you give your drive PCB to someone who is more experianced, in your case?

Ok, so I have a new development with my problem. I snagged another console and switched the drives in them to see if a new one would possibly work, and it did. So I at least know that the I/O port on my board isn't fried, it's just the drive.
