Does the nxe update really cause rrod?
If it does, are the jasper units affected too?

of course. MS created NXE exclusively to destroy all consoles.

basically, when you install it what happens is it copies the update to your HDD or MU...inside what it copies to your actual console is basically know as the RRoD file ($RRD.BIN located in the FS - [ File System ]).
This can be remotely triggered (i.e Xbox LIVE), set to a time/date or specific game - you can get rid of it but only once you open your console (theirs always a trick isn't there) thus voiding your warranty so you can't send it back to them...money grabbing bastards

meaning there's actually no hardware failure but a file that triggers the rrod. how could those bastards get away with this? shouldn't this be exposed to the whole world?

this is not entirly true, as the tali file (required by $RRD.BIN) can be disabled using the king cobra exploit and the tali_ban.pms file found in the usual places

in case you havent figured out they are pulling youre leg, nxe has nothing to do with the rrod, it just so happened the rrod happened after nxe upgrade but its just coincidance the system would have rrod whether they updated or not the console was about ready to take a dump and just managed to happen right after nxe, so some people think its the nxe but it is not

I lol'd at gigabyte's joke...
and NO, NXE doesn't cause RROD. IT may cause RROD on SOME Xenon consoles, because it have "insufficient cooling", and alot more graphics.
And if you are talking about hte new HDMI sound fix causing RRoD, i'm not too sure about this one, but alot of people did claimed that this killed alot of consoles due to incomplete update

HDMI sound fix f'ing consoles...nope not true - NXE causing RRoD, well "technically" because it is a bit more GUI rich it may in turn produce an RRoD but it was already there (almost broken) prior to the NXE being installed thus not NXE's fault. The same could happen if you ran a demanding game

That's what i said! But for old console owners, the update is not properly installed in certain cases (Possibly network interruption??) The incomplete firmware will also cause an RROD, or at least 1LOD
