any chance they will be coming about with a more simple "plug and play" way to hack the 360's DVD drive in the near future? I want to try it, but I don't want to ruin my $400 purchase...

Even if you mess it up with a bad flash the samsung drive is easly fixed from this, look around theres a bad flash tutuaral that is 100% working.
Just make sure to take a backup of your key...
