So i finally setup MCE 05 on my computer, and linked it to my xbox. I kept getting an error on my PC that told me windows media player needed to be updated to wmp11 beta. Didn't do it at first...then, out of no where, i got a windows style error (that means window's classic theme warning message) popping up through my xbox on the mce extender. And in fact it was the same message as on my pc. Does this have something to do with the fact that the 360 is an extender...or is it possible that the 360 can utilise some windows xp dll files? IF so...would it be possible to insert the divx/xvid/ac3 or w/e codecs onto the HD (provided we can find the extender folder) where the other codec files are, and it might play? Speculation as usual...but i thought it might be worth a mention. Although it would be unsigned code...and the dll libraries would have to be edited in order to stop them from using some windows resources that just aren't there.

No. Xbox360 is not x86

No. Video codecs on the XBox 360 are MPEG1, MPEG2, DVR-MS and WMV.

a) im aware its not x86, however it clearly has to have some similar libraries in order to run as an extender and give me that random error
b) yes, thats the current list, which is why youd be adding these

all that the xbox360 contains is the renderer for the media center extender. since the xbox360 does not allow you to run code on it, your windows media center pc does all the required processing and then send the program output through the wire and then all the xbox360 extender does is render what the computer tells it to. its kinda works like a vnc. as for the codecs, why dont you just use transcode360. it will allow you to stream alot more video formats. i belvie the website is at www.runtime360.com or something like that. hope it helps

yeah i have transcode, i was thinking for ease of use though. and if all it does is basically stream files, why won't it play divx?

installed operating system mce 2005 also works on vmware workstation which is xp

hxxp://www.digital-forums.com/showthread.php?t=256234

files i used was

1. mce video encoder from microsoft website
2. gordian knot pack for divx ,xvid etc..........
3. full xbox 360 setup pc sp2 making connection to 360 as extender

cant remember if installed windows media encoder 9series (windows media component setup)
4 . finally  boot up 360 mce page gives u 8 numbers password unique to individual 360  use that for (3.) when setting up

5 . transcode 3.1 beta > i think 4.1 just came out last week

once connected mines via router ....

on 360 videos see your movies  no media controller wireless  joypayp pressed x or right click on the video folder it self where the video is

option called "MORE"

stop start encoding click yes when its asks then just play encoding nothing to be done on pc besides being on

hey  Cool Roll Eyes
