Drive: Hitachi Gdr-3120l 0047dh

I'm having problems playing games/dvd movies, they show on dashboard as'unreadable/unplayable'.

It worked fine before I attempted to flash drive so i could play backups. I never got as far as actually flashing the drive. I put the drive in mode B via slax, booted to windows xp, drive was detected, I put original game/movie in drive...but it wouldn't read it so Firmware toolbox didn't let me proceed, so problem now is I can't even replace drive as I never got far enough to be able to backup the key.

Help would be appreciated as I am in trouble with missus as she has bought 360 games for kids for xmas.

if you use classic mode you dont have to insert a game or movie disc. and im going to assume you were using the 360 to power the drive. when using 360 and raw mode you must push eject 3 times to keep the drive closed. 2 to close it and a 3rd time while it is closing. also, when attempting to flash, use 47flash.exe. and lastly, if all you did was put the drive in mode b, but no flashing attempts, then the drive should have been back to 100% original condition upon powering the drive off. might want to try reflashing and see what happens.

Yes I am using the 360 to power the drive.

I used classic mode & 47.exe to flash fw & at least to backup the all important key, but drive is still not reading discs. I was keeping the drive closed by pressing eject once then pushing drive in.

I read somwhere that slax only supports 78 drives, is that correct?

I have seen 78 drives on ebay, I assume I can fit one of these & use my original key in Firmware toolbox?

Thanks again for help.

Slax only supports 78 drives?  Do you mean for putting them in mode B?  Because that would be incorrect.  what is it you mean?

Sorry I should have been clearer, I read somwhere that Slax can only be used on 78 drives to put drive in mode B, I found this strange as my drive seemed to go in to mode B fine using Slax.

So if I replace my drive I can use my key to flash new drive?. Can I replace with any make ie: samsung. What drive do you guys regard as the best?

I'll have a look at podgers tool, no doubt it is available on xbins.

Cheers all for help, have modded plenty of original xboxes, this is my first 360.
