Hey all.  I recently softmodded my first xbox and have xbmc running.  All seems well and dandy but this has been accomplished without access to xbins because I keep getting popped off irc.  I'm not new to IRC but I join the room and immediatly (5 seconds in) get banned (without typing anything and by a different person every day).  I have waited out the daily ban and reconnected the next day with the exact same results... for nearly two weeks.   I'm using chatzilla.  Is it just me?  Should I take up underwater basket weaving instead because I'll never get on xbins?

Also... being totally new to the xbox modding world, 99% of the links relating to current work on xbins.org are dead and most of the forums I've found died out in 2004-5.  There is still tons of useful and cool info on there but nothing new.   Is there a new place where up-to-date in-process stuff is posted?  Is all that stuff going on for the 360 only these days?

TIA

I just connected no problems...I dunno what chatzilla is all about but have you tried using mirc instead? maybe they dont like chatzilla or they are detecting some dodgy script or irc trojan you may have.

it's possible that someone on your ISP got banned and that usually affects everyone on the same address.

as for xbox being dead.. yeah, it almost is. there's some ports on and off still, and xbmc is being improved, but there's not really much left to do afterall.

You can check xbox-scene.com, they have updates on anything Xbox/XBox 360 related.

Thanks all for the quick responses.

Arakon -  I think you're right.  While I sit there for my 5 seconds I see a "mode +b 167.109.*" message pop up every time.  I'm assuming thats to ban everyone in my class b.  I'm a comcast slave, um I mean customer so I have very little choice about my ip.  Maybe I'll find a good old fashioned open proxy somewhere.

This whole endeavor started with the purchase of a mac mini about 6 months ago for the purpose of it being a media server.  Further research led me to find that another $1000 in addons would give me something I could hook up to the network and the TV and play music and videos / ripped dvd's from.  Too much $$$.  I then bought a "media server NAS" for like $200 and it doesn't really work either and required a cable box / tivo that talks over the network, or a direct firewire connection to the cable box... more $$$$.  Now I have my $59 softmodded xbox, xbmc, a spare 250 gig HD I had lying around, a $30 wireless network adapter and a $14 xbox dvd remote.  Hmm.  I should have just started here because it all just works great for $103.   $103!!!!

I'm bummed there isn't much in the way of new development going on but it makes sense that based on the age of the xbox, it's gone from being "cool" to "retro".

chickenpie - chatzilla is an irc "addon" for firefox.  I tried it becuase I use it for other things and have never had a problem with it.  I thought, as you mentiond, that it might be an issue so I tried mIrc too.  Same thing.   ARGH!

BTW - FYI:  I picked up the xbox dvd remote brand new in the package from fry's electronics for $14.00 yesterday.  I had looked on line and the cheapest I had seen them was $15.00 for a used one.
