Hi guys I am all ready up to the point where I have to backup my firmware. The thing is I load any disc the DVD drive just goes to unplayable disc and the unplayable disc fixes dont apply anymore and I was wondering if there was anyway I could dump the firmware without loading dvd or maybe transfer my key card from hitachi to samsung and try load dvd and try back it up? and I did some research for 3 hours and found out about some program called memdump which you dont need dvd in drive but it only supports hitachi 45 46 47 and there seems to be people that can reprogram the program to be compatible with 78fk I just need the firmware and key to proceed please help. Thanks in advance.

well if it was me, I would tweak the pot and go from there...if you can't get it to go even after that then there's still a couple more options

tweaking the laser won't do $#!t if it can't even read originals anymore. even if you could make it read games again briefly, you'd have to jack up the laser power to the point where it would burn out within days, weeks at best.

Well I just replaced the laser with no problem and the laser lighting up but still unplayable disc error maybe it is the motor. I just transferred the laser from the samsung to hitachi because they were both compatible with each other SF-hd63 model. My one and only goal is to the get this key out of the hitachi drive so I could get it over with this hitachi. Is there anyplace that sales xbox 360 hitachi motor cheap couldn't find anything on ebay. THX Cheesy

if they really want to, they could detect a spoof. they don't yet, though.

make a bootable usb stick Smiley go here and get the hp format utility AND the 98 boot files (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197) ... it's self explanatory, then i'd suggest using Xtreme Boot Maker (36 version) to make you a custom hex edited mtkflash (again self explanitory...just tick both boxes and do it to C:\....then go to C:\XBF\ and copy over mtkflash.exe and mtkflash.typ to your bootable USB) from there you should be good

Alternativley if your bios supports booting from usb hard drive you could just copy the dos bootable files  and mtkflash / dosflash to the flash drive and away you go.
I used windows enabler to let me format the stick with dos bootable files, so easy.
