OK, Basically, I got a Samsung, iXtreme 12x. Nothing strange. I want to do some trace cutting and such, (or whatever is needed) that will give me an on off switch, in the on position, drive is normal, off position, the DVD stops spinning. With some investigation, it doesn't seem as though there is a GND or + for the drive motor. This seems very logical, because the 360 has to differentiate its speed, and when you eject the disk, it will stop the disk, instead of just cutting power to motor and letting the disc stop spinning (would take a couple of seconds), it actually I think puts a bit of reverse power in there to make the motor come to a halt quickly.

I would like to be able to do that, stop the disc (quickly, like in ejecting) and then fire it right back up again when I turn the switch to the on position, but I don't know how complicated it would be, so I guess just cutting power to it would be OK as a plan B.

Thanks!

I'll post some pics later, I got an old Sammy board and I took my heatgun and took of some components, It will help I know it.

Best I can get, I am trying to scan it now, being very picky though...

yeah lowering the default reading speed from 12x to let's say 5x, would really let GTA4 (or any of your games) benefit from way less popups and loading times.

Nevermind. I just did it, just used my fingers to slow the disc, and it says disc unreadable. Bummer, I wanted to walk around in GTA with an unloaded map.

in GTA when the disc can not access the data it throws a blade up and blacks the screen so your idea wouldnt have worked anyways.

You can't overwrite stuff in memory, the 360's memory is encrypted and hashed...correct?

You would need to do it at a point of relative laser inactivity.
