anything will do, as long as it's not huge.

Hi guys, I am building my own ttl converter but only have access to this chip and not the maxim. I am wondering if it is suitable instead of the maxim chip. The technician at the college said it has the same spec, that may or maynot be so, if it is i just want to know will it work in place of the maxim otherwise i will have to order on ebay and wait. This is the datasheet for the chip i plan to use. http://www.cubeos.org/robocube/pdf/icl232.pdfIf someone could please advise me that would be great, thanks guys and keep up the good work. C|F

it'll work as long as it can handle 3.3V instead of 5V. put a socket in and try. if it doesn't work, you can easily swap it against the maxim.

Is the RS232 cable really necessary. Cant you just connect the power and sata cable directly to your motherboard?

sure you can. you just won't get the key, considering that is sent over the serial port.

Just got my liteon key, what an epic battle for something that was retardedly easy. I took the diy method and made the cheap diy ttl to spec, few bucks later and it was ready to go...so I thought. I know my limits soldering so was trying everything but soldering the txd pads, to no avail. One attempt with a spike had it shoot out of the hole when I was typing in dos, I barely let go of it! It jumps out, and flies across to the thin chip and bridges a few legs. Sparky. Game over right? The drive was paralysed, but the main chipset still functioned, just not the laser or drive motor (sata data still retrieved fine). I persued, never beaten before, only to pull both pads at the txd bridge... All I had to do was wire the convertor to 5v instead of 3.3v. 3.3v wasn't enough to drive it clearly at that high rate. There was plenty of copper near the hole, and a shiney point in it, so with my new super responsive com port I hitup doskey16 and 32 easy as. Lucky?, yes! Skilled? Obviously I'll stick to guitar electronics where things are 20x the size Big shoutout to the guys that work this stuff out, I absolutely love reading about it and following the progress, and these mods are more fun then 90% of the games on the xbox. Except when you see sparks

how about you read the thread? it states clearly that you need a ttl converter, it even has diagrams to build your own and URL where to order a premade one.

Do you have to use the hex editor, or can you just use the 360 drive Switcher? And does this method just spoof the drive or does it flash it as well?

Please can some1 help me, i cant think of anythink else to try..... I first used a max232 cable that i allready had, no good, then bought a max3232 kit from ebay.. no good.. so finally bought a Xecuter V3 Connectivity Kit.. but still getting Key: CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC I am getting Enquiry and Identify just fine through the Sata, but cant get the key... I soldered the jumpers and then checked with a multimeter set to Continuity and tested that the jumpers were joining by testing the points in the picture above... I have tried using DOS, the xtractor software and i have tried using DVDkey32.. all i get is CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC CC for the key or the failed box in xtractor or sega:54 in dos. I have tried using the usb part of the connectivity kit and have tried the serial adaptor. I have tried 1) ejecting, switch kit off, push tray in half way, power on, read, 2) Eject, eject to get it to start going back in, then cutting power, pushing then to half way, power on then read. ive tryed as xecuter instrcutions say, eject push half way in then read... Also i have noticed that the point i have marked TX? in Orange text seems to be joined with TX? is this normal? The drive still works but could i have killed the part that pumps out the key? I really am out of ideas? please can someone help me? Thanks in advance

The way that works for me with executer connectivity v3 kit is: 1. Eject Tray Open. 2. Execute Tray Close and cut power when half way back in. 3. Connect Com 1 cable. 4. Boot to Dos. 5. Connect SATA Cable. 6. Connect Power to drive (turn on power on connectivity kit). 7. execute dvdkey xxxx (xxxx being the port number of your sata connection)
Things to check... Turn of all raid controllers - your sata port should be able to work in ata mode. Make sure you are using com 1 with the settings.. irq 4 & address 03f8. Make sure you are sending the correct port address in dos, you can find your sata address's by running dosflash in dos.

I think cutting power when drive is closing is what most people forget. Lol I used to press the power button to shut down the console (and stop powering the drive) but it would always close the tray first:P It sometimes works without cutting power on closing though.

I understand. You found paradise in America, you had a good trade, you made a good living. The police protected you and there were courts of law. And you didn't need a friend like me. But, uh, now you come to me, and you say: "Don Corleone, give me justice." But you don't ask with respect. You don't offer friendship. You don't even think to call me Godfather. Instead, you come into my house on the day my daughter is to be married, and you ask me to do murder for money.
