i think if you look on the pic of the pcb on the second page of this thread it looks like r709 goes to the one below to the left of 3.3v,i think the pin -resistor-wire idea is the blokes only hope affter the solder job!he knocked r709 ,he should of stopped then but instead he took all 6 rx,tx,open/close pads off!

Well it didn't work, tried it about 1000000000 times.

I have bought a MAX232 (5v) - RS232 to TTL Module. So it isn't a MAX3232..
Some poeple said a MAX232 (5v) should work too, so I gave it a try. (SEE PIC2)

I solder the points (Tx, Rx, Vcc and GND) together and connected the R707 & R708. (SEE PIC1)
I f***ed the round spots so i decided them to solder them on the point next to it. I think it isn't a problem. If i'm wrong PLEASE REPLY!

I didn't had a connectivity kit v1/v2/v3 so i decided to use power from my xbox 360, if this isn't possible PLEASE REPLY!

After I created a bootfloppy with DVDKey v1.2 on it. I found out that my drive was 01F0.

This is a summary of wat i did:

1 Set IDE/SATA settings to legacy
2 Set floppy to boot first.
3 Shut down Computer and xbox 360.
4 Turn on xbox 360 (with xbox 360 sata and power in it), open drive, close drive, and open drive again with a screwdriver (the xbox 360 green-light starts turning on and off).
5 Disconnect xbox 360 sata cable from drive.
6 Connect COM1 to drive.
7 Turn on PC and boot to dos.
8 Connect PC SATA1 cable.
9 Type: dvdkey 01F0

The INQUIRY.BIN and IDENTIFY.BIN where saved.
But the KEY.BIN didn't extract.. (Nothing recieved trough COM port)

After I checked the INQUIRY.BIN and IDENTIFY.BIN with TinyHex, there where only ''7FFF''. I Think these two files aren't working.

After some different tries there was a KEY.BIN file, but the key was 00000000000000000000000000000.
If I don't set the IDE/SATA config to Legacy (in bios) I don't get a KEY.BIN

I'm really happy that i didn't fried my drive like some others did but, PLEASE REPLY IN WHAT I DID WRONG..
I really don't know what to do. Should I:

- Buy an MAX3232 RS232 to TTL Module and replace the MAX232?
- Invert the Tx and Rx?
- Use the other Vcc, Tx, Rx and GND from the MAX232 chip?
- HuhHuh??

eehm no! those white cables are the cables to the MAX232. I only used the xbox 360 powercable to give the drive energy instead of using the Connectivity Kit.

It gives power, but I can't extract the key.. is this the problem?

I dont know, but it looks you broke the traces to the big round solder spots for Tx and Rx.

Solder your wires directly to the Via´s before the Solder Bridges or to the Solder Bridges and try again.

And like Arakon said. Use thinner wires. You can break off your solder pads with such thick wires easily.

and more importantly, don't leave huge unisolated ends like that, they could VERY easily cause a short and fry the drive.

well there's absolutely no way it will work if the trace is disconnected so you've got nothing to lose by trying to reconnect it, most likely will fix it.

Also you only have to connect the Tx line, not the Rx

Only one question left, How can I see if the R707 and R808 are connected?
Cuz im not 100% sure..

Only one question left, How can I see if the R707 and R808 are connected?
Cuz im not 100% sure..

Use a multimeter to test continuity with one lead on the via hole directly between the R707 resistor and the voltage regulator (small black chip with 3 legs on one side and a big one on the other) and the other lead on the TX pad of the drive (or your RX pin for the max3232 transciever).  You only really need R707 to get the key but you can also test R708 the same way with the RX pad.  You may want to also check that there is no connection between RX and TX pads.  You may have inadvertently connected them while soldering the R707 and R708 links or your transceiver wiring.

I tested it with a multimeter like on this picture:

Well when I tested R707 and Tx (see the green boxes) there wasn't any connectivity. Just the standard 1
I think I have to solder it again.

But when I tested the R708 and Rx (see the purple boxes) there was a connectivity I think. It was between 0,01 and 0,25, does this mean there is connectivity?

You also said I could also test it with the Rx pin for de max232 transciever instead the Tx pin on the drive. But why Rx? why not Tx?

Does this mean I have to invert te Tx / Rx when I connect to the transiever?

Thank you!

I've tried extracting my key from the drive & have got the same key 3 times however it tells me that the key is not good.

It has ends in 00 & i was wondering if that is why it is telling me it is not good.

the key also has FFF middle of it apart form that it looks OK

Can anyone help me as to what is the problem or could this be the genuine key.

i get inquiry & identify bin fine.

thanks in advance.

if you got a sammy try the key out. worth a try only takes a min to flash a sammy.
use toolbox 4.8 to spoof and inject key into the firmware.

I'm at wits end here Undecided

I accidently bought the max3232cpe
loopback test works
got inquiry.bin and identify.bin just fine

DVDkey.exe says error sega:54
nothing received from com port

I have no idea how to tell if the serial port is set to com1 or how to set it in dos for that matter
btw, I used HP's usb format and put win98 dos boot disk

DVDkey32 gives me a key of CC CC CC CC etc...

serial port is manually set to 3F8 IRQ4 usins COM1
its the only serial port on my mobo

I checked continuity from the holes behind the traces I resoldered to the serial converter and it's good for Rx and Tx

When you open up KEY.BIN in notepad i presume your meant to have your key...i dont when i open up mine it says this,

Tx...1/2XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX                   (the X's are random characters)

Not sure if this can shed some light as to why it keeps telling me it is not a good key.  I'm guessing the Tx stands for the Tx signal from the PCB.

Cheers.

Hello
Earlier I extract a key from another liteon.
But now I have a problem:
I have incorrectly connected a cable from XBOX to Liteon - red fires have lighted up.
Then I have connected correctly.
DVD began to work incorrectly. After that MT1319L chip it began to be heated strongly.
I could extract inquiry.bin and identifi.bin (extrating number DVD coincides with number on cover of DVDbox)
BUT key could not extract.
Help me please. Whether I can receive a key?
