hi
i flashed my hitachi 59 with ixtreme fine but when i went to spoof the drive with my lite-on inquiry.bin the computer froze. i now get the pc to recognize it on start up but it freezes when the windows xp logo appears.
if i plug it in when the computer has restarted it runs very slowly but doesn't appear on the device manager.
i tried booting with mtkflash and reading or writing the firmware. i get status 51.
any suggestions?

I am having problem with 78 drive, I dumped the key, spoofed and flashed the drive without problem but when i insert the game it just show unplayable disc for most of the games. Only few games work. I read that i need to restore the original of hitachi first before flash, could this be the issue? Now when i tried to boot back to modeB it just won't let me. any other way to get around to modeB? Can anyone help pls?

Thanks

i also add trouble getting my max 3232 to read the key and inquiry.bin. after many many attemps, i used realterm no port scan to check the connection. worked like a charm. my connections from the max3232 to lite-on were not perfect.
when you run the program if it's connected properly rx should be orange at some point.
make sure you tick hex and half duplex on the display page. click change
parity none, data bits 8, port 1 if you use com1 (set to 03f8). on port page.click change
clear break and set break on pins page
if its working you should see loads of 01 in the windows.
you can then run dvdkey32
make sure you used slax to get your port ids, you need 2 set of number and the com port number.
should look like c:\dvdkey32 1234 1234 1  ( 1234 1234 is the sata id)
that's how i managed to get mine out. repeated it a couple of times to be sure. gave me the same key and inquiry.bin every time.

This is how to configure realterm to confirm serial cable

Display tab:
When all is set click change

Port tab:
When all is set click change and then OPEN

Pins Tab:
Click "Set Break" to start comms

the drive outputs $01 autobaud continuously.....

On the last one you can even see the key come out in the format

83 xx xx xx 83 xx xx xx 83 xx xx xx 83 xx xx xx 83 xx xx xx 83 xx 20 20

***also
I've updates dvdkey32 it no longer requires the second hard to find port number, it's on xbins

DVDKey32 xxxx y
xxxx is port number
y com port number

well i finally got it working.

yesterday was a stressful day of trial and error with my computer/ my 1st lite-on/my adapter(same as the previous post)/my patience

after hours and hours, all gave me the same result (nothing coming from the com port)

- tried inverting tx & rx, no difference
- tried removing the jumpers on the adapter, no difference
- re-done the half-closed method (thinking i could be doing it wrong, after all it was my 1st lite-on drive to dump the key), no difference
- tried with connectivity kit soldered to the adapter & with the adapter soldered directly into the lite-on PCB, no difference

then after so many hours, i stopped to clear my stress, and think about what i've done and what i could still do the next day, 1st idea was to ask a relative to borrow me her computer, because my pc is fairly new and i never used the Serial port, so i didn't know if it was working properly (and because hyperterminal didn't allow me to type anything i thought that maybe my serial port wasn't working properly).

so with this other pc, i grabed a VT6421A, plugged it in, installed the drivers, installed iprep, made a bootable USB pen, copied dvdkey, booted into DOS with the USB, used dosflash to get my sata port, the drive was already half-closed, turned the drive on, typed "dvdkey dc00" and bang, it worked on my 1st try.

then i grabbed my POS computer motherboard manual and guess what, my onboard COM port is COM2 for crying out loud, why is the only COM port in my computer COM2 and not COM1? and on the BIOS i can't change it, it's printed on the motherboard COM2, i wonder why is this...

anyway, i'm very happy that my mission is acomplished, because i had to pass through a lot Smiley

thanks for the help guys, from now on i'll try to help the people who still didn't manage to dump their keys
cheers

As asked by Devils360, here is how mine is working:

Yes I noticed on the ebay pic everyone seems to be having trouble with that the jumpers are set differently to how they should be

now they seem to ship with this config 1-3 2-4 5-6 but they need to be set to 1-2 4-6 3-5

hope this helps you guys

Well so I  know it's not the MAX2323 Dongle then, can you confirm that the rx/tx muxy be inverted with this MAX2323 dongle? That's exactly how my jumpers are set, so it must be something else. Arrrgh!!!

@Podger, when I tried to use realterm when I clicked "Set Break" in the last step nothing happened, I tried it with rx/tx normal and inverted. Does this mean my COM port isn't connected properly? As when I used DVDkey it always said "COM port anyways seems to work" another thing that might not be of significance is none of the "status" lights on the right are lit up at all.

Can you confirm that it's the COM port that grabs the key.bin, and the SATA that grabs the identify.bin and inquiry.bin. Then I can concentrate on the COM port, knowing that I have my SATA port address correct.

EDIT: Do I need to change my COM port settings to 115200 bits per second in device manager. I tried it anyway, it still didn't work. Also for the realterm process to work do I have to have the drive half closed and the SATA cable plugged in?

Thanks for all the input so far everyone Smiley

I'm sure everyone is sick of my raving, but I found a very useful tutorial on how to do a loopback test to test your Serial Port functionality here http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3450.

It turns out my Serial Ports don't work!!! Although I was always getting "COM port seems to work anyways" error.

I suggest anyone getting the Sega:54 error try this tutorial before going crazy trying to figure out what is wrong. I will have to get a USB to serial adapter I guess.

As a side note whenever i tried DVDkey32 it usually caused a system restart or occasionally just 'an error has occurred' message.

As it turns out my COM ports do work. I wasn't doing the serial loop back test properly (have to set flow control to 'none' Grin)

So now I'm totally stuck:

1. I know my COM number is definitely 1, and that it's definitely working
2. I know the MAX3232 dongle I purchased can work
4. I'm pretty sure I have the tray half closed thing right (paperclip method and pulling the power cable form the DVD drive)

I'm pretty sure my SATA port address is correct as it's taken directly from the batch file I use for BenQ flashing plus I can get the inquiry.bin and identify.bin (I'm assuming inquiry/identify.bin are grabbed by the SATA port, if I'm wrong can someone please point it out). I'm using an onboard VIA8237A which works for my BenQ's. But kinpau mentioned the SATA port ID should be in the form "xxxx xxxx", my SATA port ID is just "ff00" does this sound wrong?

Podger can you give some more instruction on how do to the realterm method (eg, drive tray status half closed?, when to power up the DVD drive such as before/after boot, does the SATA need to be plugged in?)

It feels like I'm talking to my self but hopefully what I'm going through will help someone else out in the future.

on dvdkey DOS version you only type "dvdkey ff00"

on the newest dvdkey32 you also only need to type "dvdkey32 ff00 1"  (1 being COM1 as you mentioned)

i didn't use dvdkey32 though, my success was with dvdkey 1.2 (DOS version)

PS: i suppose you already tried inverting tx & rx connections (i had to)

good luck

Hey there guys,

just a little update from me:

I did the serial check, and my cable and com1 port are both ok -
I think the problem then here is the layout of my d.i.y max3232 -
the Loopback test here (connecting the Tx/Rx which is coming out the max3232)
wasn't working - so I'm going to rebuild the whole thing, while waiting until my prebuild
ttl to rs232 while arrive from china Smiley

Well, but I got one question left - Can someone pls confirm that the KEY.bin is transfered
via the com port?

Many thanks in advance!

yes the key.bin is transfered through (or with the help of) the com1 port (my pc only has COM2 and wasn't working, i had to do it in my relative's pc and worked on the first try)

the inquiry.bin and identify.bin are transfered through sata because i got them with my computer before being able to get the key.bin

cheers and good luck

hi all,

unable to get it work, it keep give me 00000000000 for the key. If i follow the tutorial it says to cut the power when closing the tray. But after the tray is half open and i power on my xbox again it still closes.
it only seems to work when i'm turning on my xbox and then use a paperclip to open the tray, but i think it's given te wrong open/closed status.
please help and tell me how to do it with using the powersupply of the xbox

greetings,

eel.

Nevermind Cry i'm a noob but i got my key Cheesy

you have to read carefully, close the tray and cut the power, tray halfway, turn on xbox without sata and POWERCABLE(dvddrive) and then plug in powercable of dvd . another three hours of my live wasted, aahhhhh nothing compared to the biljoen hours i played halo, also wasted. Undecided

is it real?Huh:

Some news from Geremia for XBox 360 users, to quote:

Got a drive as gift for testing (thanks Raiden)

Some small update:

"It's an embedded spi flash, exactly an MX25L2005 and dosflash1.6 can write it. The bad is that you can access it only if it's completely erased, this seems to be the "check module" mentioned into the patent

About reading the fw, i can just get 3-4 256bytes chunks in a tricky way, but can't have a complete dump this way.

reading dvdkey: ok
reading unique drive data: ok
erasing flash: ok
writing flash: ok
reading flash: missing"

Hi guys, I'm convinced the MAX3232 chip that my MAX3232 dongle came with is defective. Can someone with a working MAX2323 please confirm that there should be a continuity between legs 14 and 11 (as shown on the picture below) when measured with a multimeter. It would be great if someone could confirm this as it would mean all my problems are simply due to a faulty MAX3232 chip. Thanks.

No. You need to do some soldering and use dvdkey to get the key.bin in conjunction with a serial port max3232 adapter.

I haven't read the whole thread now, but what is about inverting Rx and Tx?
Becaus my first Lite-On i successfully dumped worged with TMF's diagram, but
today i had another on and i had to switch Tx & Rx.

Can someone explain me why? Is it random every drive?

andrew it's me Troy, I think the trouble you're having is you're unplugging the Xbox 360, you need to unplug the actual power plug going into the drive , unplugging the whole xbox will clear the "closed state"
So power on xbox, eject tray, close tray and pull the white power cable going to the drive and then very carefully to avoid shorts put it back in, should read fine after that. A better way would be to put a switch on the v+ line as the power cable can be quite stubborn at times.

and damn!, it's not random, maybe you connected the wrong points or changed jumpers on your adapter. Every one i've done has been the same, rx and tx stays the same.

Hey Troy,

I've tried that exact method you described. I'm sure I have a faulty MAX3232 chip, could you please test the connectivity between pins 14 and 11 on your MAX3232 chip for me with a multimeter and let me know if you have any connections between them, as there is no connection between pins 14 and 11 on my MAX3232. Going from the diagram I'm pretty sure there should be a connection between pins 14 and 11 on a working MAX3232 chip.

PLEASE, if anyone could just spare 3min of there time to pull out their multimeter and report back on the resistance readings between legs 14 and 11 on a working MAX3232 chip, it would be very helpful to me.
