if it doesn't let you type anything, it's because your circuit is not working. it usually only sends, so you see nothing you type. if the chip is working right, it will return what you sent back to you, and only then you will see it.

How do send information if you can't type anything in the field (white box)?

It didn't work, sorry reg1: 54
DVD key:
00000000000000000000000000000000
Seems NOT a good DVD Key!!! 00 00

This seems to be happening alot...after trial and error i found that using the xbox on/off button to power the drive, just sends a close command to it and gives the above...power on xbox and close drive, then pull the power plug from the back of the drive, follow the tut and when it comes to power on the drive just plug it back in (do not power on/off the actual console). Works like a charm and drive stays at half way, it doesnt close when powered on causing the read to fail

try to invert tx and rx cable Wink

Can I run the MAX3232 at 5v? It seems as though I should be able to.

This is the one I got.

http://datasheets.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/MAX3222-MAX3241.pdf

Just use the 0.1uf caps as normal, just 5v on the VCC?

yeah lowering the default reading speed from 12x to let's say 5x, would really let GTA4 (or any of your games) benefit from way less popups and loading times.

n00bpwner360:
some 3.3V devices work and translate at 5V, some 5V devices work and translate at 3.3V (by 'translate' I mean the i/o would follow the supplied voltage for their voltage.) Whatever you do, do not give that chip 5V then hook it's i/o leads to something that is operating at 3.3V (or vice versa) - and if it's designed for 3.3V, I'd not be surprised if you "let the smoke out" when hooking it to 5V, but I'd be equally not surprised if it worked for 5V devices anyway.

Now, IIRC, somewhere back in the thread someone did confirm a max 5V device working fine at 3.3V all around.

Hello to all again.

After a lot of reading i will write my observation and i hope to spot light to many of as that have problem in dumping the key from lite-on.

1) I measured the voltage from the Liteon's board when it was operating and my multimeter showed 5.6 volts. I also measured the voltage that CK feeds the xbox360 drive and found it also to be 5. something volts. Thats why you can freely use a MAX232 based RS232 to TTL converter (The 5.6volts will operate the MAX232 key).  So feel free to use a MAX232 IC to dump the key.

I want to ask the following:

Can somebody confirm the correct connections from the MAX3232 to the LITEON's board:

A)   MAX3232 (pins)    |       LITEON BOARD
      --------------------------------------
      12 (R1 OUT)             TxD
      11 (T1 IN)                RxD

                      OR

B)  MAX3232 (pins)    |       LITEON BOARD
    --------------------------------------
    12 (R1 OUT)              RxD
    11 (T1 IN)                 TxD

I think the correct one as i studied the IC should be A but please confirm.

I have a LITE-ON and still i cannot dump the key from it i always get the following error:

c:\DVDKEY>dvdkey 9000
Port 9000
Drive Present
Wait about 20 seconds

It didn't work, sorry reg1: 54
DVD key:
00000000000000000000000000000000
Seems NOT a good DVD Key!!! 00 00
KEY.BIN saved

When i first attempted to dump the key i had misplaced the wires to the RS232 (i had placed the ground to pin 1 at the RS232 adapter and not to 5 and the RxD to pin 4 and not to pin 2).
The outcome was to get the above error.
Furthermore, when i checked the operation of my drive, it didn't read discs. My xbox360 was loading up to the dashboard, the dvd was spinning at high speed and nothing i was getting unreadable disc and when i was pressing the eject button then the tray was coming out with the disc continue spinning.

Did i fried my drive completely after that or is it any chance to take the key even if it is not reading anymore?

After that i realized my wiring mistake and i corrected it. But despite the fact  i follow the procedure correctly (No connectivity KIT, drive in closed status half tray open) i still get the above error.

I have checked my rs232-ttl converter to the hyperterminal and when i loop the TX, RX cables after the MAX3232 it echoes back, so the IC works correctly.

The problem seems to be to the TX, RX from my LITEON drive.

I want to take TX and RX from the other 2 points wich are bridged. My question is can i solder the TX and RX to the 2 bridged points?

I hope for some answers from you guys and i hope that i helped.

So I need to run it at the voltage that the controller chip is running at? Not really sure what you are telling me to do. But I got time, no LiteOn drive yet, but it will be here soon.

hello everyone

had a small problem while soldering...
i accidentaly ripped of the small contact points R707 and R708 (dont ask..).

is it crucial to solder these points or is there any other way?

thnx in advance!

What's new in v1.2:
- changed the compiler, now takes few seconds
- more detailed errors
- should work on other controllers than VIA
