twelftythousandthreefourth point 889 minutes and 12 years. and what does it matter if it can be dumped? you can't write it back.

We actually don't know when and if the firmware for lite-on will be do...Some inteligent guys are working to do it...but you have anyway to buy original games you cannot download them or buy backups...if you want to do it you are a pirate and you are invited to go away from this forum and never come back!!!!

not with a software solution most likely. IF anything works, then it will be very likely with a modchip.

So, in your opinion, is the spoofing the best solution or is better to wait for the modchip?

considering not even a firmware dump has happened, there is nothing to wait for for quite a while.

I think it will be possible to write the firmware back just like the other drives one day. Anything can be done it is just limited to how long someone brilliant individual is willing to give up his time to work it out. I am very certain it will happen, but i think it will be after rather than before christmas. Noone thought getting the dvd drive key out of the lite-on was possible a few weeks ago!

no matter how brilliant, nothing short of magic will make a one time programmable memory re-writable.

Ok, for the DIY'ers out there not afraid of soldering, I have successfully dumped the liteon key using a HOMEBREW RS232 LEVEL CONVERTER, made from only 10k resistors, transistors, a 0.15uF capacitor, and a diode. Follow this schematic: Here's the changes I made to make it work: 1. Replace all 4k7 resistors with 10k resistors (so it uses only 10k resistors) 2. Replace the 100nF (0.1uF) cap with a 150nF (0.15uF) cap. The capacitor must be non-polarized I used a 2n3904 and a 2n3906 transistors, and a standard zener diode more info: http://picprojects.org.uk/projects/simpleSIO/ssio.htmJust dumped the key using this converter..worked like a charm and its really really cheap

What makes you think its OTP? That drive that Geremia trashed would imply something different. I am really surprised (and stoked) that the key has been extracted and the show is over for the liteon. That patent pertained to the inability to extract the firmware, if that or any part of it has been implemented the key would have been the part they would have been trying to protect, not the generic firmware, while still important, not as important as the key for obvious reasons. The patent allows the device to be flashed, just not read. There will be a way of flashing the liteon chip, the memory in the controller will be E^2 That said expect it to be some months, the generic firmware DOES still have to be extracted and modified, or begotten from somewhere else. If the generic firmware is indeed still protected then that still presents a major issue even though the controller can be flashed.

Even if writing the entire firmware is not possible, it MUST be possible to reflash the key on the drive, otherwise MS would be losing a lot of money every time a 360 with a liteon drive RROD's and they have to replace the motherboard AND scrap the drive too, seems like a waste Also, has anyone tried swapping a BenQ logic board into a liteon drive? Until the liteon board gets fully hacked they're not very useful, but the rest of the drive hardware is still good (I'm pretty sure the laser can be swapped into a BenQ drive, not sure about samsung/hitachi though)

hrmm.. I was pretty sure one of the tech guys (Geremia?) mentioned in this or another thread that it wasn't writable.

We can get the key, download a copy of the firmware, and if someone can figure out how to flash, all we have to do is hit up C4E, and you got yourself a hacked drive.

yeah lowering the default reading speed from 12x to let's say 5x, would really let GTA4 (or any of your games) benefit from way less popups and loading times.
