Ok, for the DIY'ers out there not afraid of soldering, I have successfully dumped the liteon key using a HOMEBREW RS232 LEVEL CONVERTER, made from only 10k resistors, transistors, a 0.15uF capacitor, and a diode.

Follow this schematic:

Here's the changes I made to make it work:

1. Replace all 4k7 resistors with 10k resistors (so it uses only 10k resistors)
2. Replace the 100nF (0.1uF) cap with a 150nF (0.15uF) cap. The capacitor must be non-polarized

I used a 2n3904 and a 2n3906 transistors, and a standard zener diode

more info: http://picprojects.org.uk/projects/simpleSIO/ssio.htm

Hi,very good job..but I have one problem,I want konw, if is possible, the right position for 2n3904 and 2n3906.thanks

is right in this wayh ?

PNP BC559 --> 2n3906
NPN BC548 --> 2n3904

thanks

Also as a side note, if you are having problems dumping the key (for example it gets half way then shows all zeroes), use a slightly larger capacitor. The 100nF cap didn't work for me (last two bytes of key were random), but the 150nF worked perfectly first try

right. i have had a look this thread and i am not sure if i can make the cable need to get the liteon key. I live in england ans wondered if there was some way i could pay someone through paypal and they could send me a ready done one with instructions of where to put or solder the wires. post it on here or email me.

thanks in advance

Well at least this post in honest about it.......Id rather a n00b that knows hes a n00b..than a pure leech that parrots and pretends to contribute.

@endorium

Wait long enough and someone will hybrid the design and sell it....    Innovation!  .....no seriously I mean that, no sarcasm, its the modchip industry.

thanks for the quick reply. Annoying thing is i can see what parts i need  and i am good at soldering but cant quite get whats its meant to look like once done. i wont be using a connectivity kit and might have a stab at doing it(wont learn anything without trying). Anyone got a picture of theres that does not use the connectivity kit so atleast i have some guide to compare against the circuit diagram

the modfreaks original pic does not mention the connectivity kit at all if i remember right its just for power and eject....the ultimate in basic electronics

If you don't use it ...the you run a risk to your console if you screw it up..that is all

google is your friend!!!! Did you try google?... perhaps you should try google, if you don't know where it is, then try google.

When did this become a Q&A about a circuit diagram that has been around since the dark ages and has more open source info on it than you can poke a stick at?

I'm planning to purchase this adapter, but I'm not sure where to solder the 3.3v wire.  According to the tutorial, 3.3v is connected to V+.  Do I solder 3.3v to V5 shown on the image?

Tx ====================> TxD
Rx ====================> RxD
Gnd ===================> Gnd
V + ====================> 3.3v

Looks like a solid unit.....why do you want to hook up a 3v to it?  Tongue

Because I dont' see the 3v on the adapter.

well be patient then

everything you need to know is in this thread or linked to from this thread.

You do not need to solder resistors and transistors, I only posted that schematic as an OPTIONAL alternative to buying a pre-made MAX232 or MAX3232 adapter cable (In my case I wanted to do the hack NOW, had the parts laying around, and didn't feel like waiting 3 days for the board to ship)

Read. Learn. Read some more.

yes that should work

sorry if I sound like an asshole, it's just that having 50 people asking the same thing and posting the same ebay link asking if it will work gets old after a while

if you had thoroughly read the entire thread and looked at all the other ebay links that other users had posted you would have answered your own question

please keep in mind that this is a technical hacking forum, not "how to solder four wires and type 'dvdkey xxxx'"

Excellent work....Congrats Geremia

I had my $bets on you after the HDDVD work. wish I could have played a part....but I have had my own challenges eating all my time.

I do have a question or 2. who figured out the two bridges that needed to be fixed?.....good find. AND will DVDkey extract whole firmware? maybe with a /switch command  Wink or can you read whole firmware with another app though same interface?

Loved the comment about "walking in golden shoes" .

peace,
zil
