i know what your problem is

you said you were using the ss merger... dont, you need to use the iso builder as it puts about 300 megs of dummy data iun the iso

alsp you dont burn the iso file using clone cd you burn the tiny file called image.dvd as when you do that it tells clone cd were to put the layer break

if you dont do this this disk will be corrupt and give you that error you are getting

i had the same problem as you its because i didnt use the tiny file

Yes im with mvickers03, check this out and it must work fine.

BTW: I know the error i have backuped 8 Originals and one of them was the Quake 4 Bonus Disc with Quake 2, the Original Fails with "unrecogniced Disc" Error but the Backup plays well, isnt that Funny all other Originals working well, and also the Backups.

I also see that the Backups are running better, because the Drive is not so loud as with the Originals and the Loading Times are faster.

Has anyone figured the Same ?

misconception, backups just run slower not a full 12X so drive will obiviously sound quieter!

I have the pioneer 109 also and same problem your having.  I went to Bestbuy and got the Pioneer 111D on sale for $40, burned the same exact files that I tried on the 109 and boom they worked perfect from the 111D

I use a 109, and it produced perfect backups on the first try every time here.

you need to update the firmare the bufallo ones are the best

I had the same problem with my drive at work

Get this though i have burnt about 5 games and thay all set the booktype correctly, but whenever i burn tombraider ledgend it dosnt change the booktype i had to upgrade to a 110d to get it burnt

I'm having the exact same problem as philb.. but here come's the strange part, I backupped several games, bought a core 360 with samsung drive, flashed the xbox drive and the backups I made all run very well! I sold the xbox to a friend of mine and bought another core system, went trough the same process of flashing the drive and burned the same ISO's I used before, but now comes the strange part, the only backup working now is Ridge Racer... the other one (Far Cry Instinct) loads shows the intro, but when I actually starts loading the game data it give's the message "Dirty Disc" when I try another backup it says "unrecognized disc" VERY strange.. does anyone have an idea?

I've a 5pack memorex DL (ID Ritek), 5 coasters Smiley
I had 5 datasafe (ID Ritek), 5 good
I had 1 memorex (same as above), 1 good, played all the game

Burned with 2 pioneer108, the 5 memorex were unreadable on layer1.

A few hints:

insert the burned dvd (or mount the iso with daemontool if you like to check preburning), open isobuster, righclick on dvd and select "sector viewer"

-at sector 129823 you should see the SS
-at sector 129856 you should see "MICROSOFT XBOX MEDIA"
-sector 1913759 is the last sector on layer0, 1913760 is the first sector of layer1 (for wxripper and xtreme style), see if it's readable
-make an iso of your burned DL and see if there is any read errors

I checked all the above and it seems al to be ok.. the funny part is the iso must be correct because I burned it, tried it on an xbox and it worked, now I have bought another xbox same DVD DL discs burned the same ISO again, and now it fails.

I use TRAXDATA DL Discs

I've done some successfully backups only after that I've updated 111d to 1.23 (http://tdb.rpc1.org/)
Too make the dump of my originals I'm using the wxripper method and some SS founded around verifing them with SS Merger before merging
No need to bitsetting. The 111d set automatically DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM.
For now I've used only verbatim media burned at 2.4x speed
No Problem at all with the backups but only after a soft reset
Hope these infos can help you
