hehhhh....the size of the NAND on the Xbox 360 is 16.5mb, usually when an update is released it's not a full 16.5mb it's more or less a patch.  So (in simple terms) it goes, boot the base kernel > apply this patch > apply this patch > apply this patch and so on.

When the new dashboard comes out it will most likely be "another patch" though god only knows if you will be able to switch back and fourth between "the old xbox experience" and "the new xbox experience" as the new xbox experience (has been put fourth) as optional not necessary like all updates released previously...just be patient it will be here soon Smiley

Ya I know I am NOT going to be downloading this until I know everything about it from the web.

yeah lowering the default reading speed from 12x to let's say 5x, would really let GTA4 (or any of your games) benefit from way less popups and loading times.

Yea well, you need a system with kernel 1888 to update to it, the hard drive copy won't work. So...

uhm, no.
this is NOT about the way old beta, but about the new preview MS is releasing. that will hardly require a 1888 firmware, otherwise noone could preview it.

The preview program just started updating people's xbox's so im sure someone will dump it onto the interwebs. The downside is you cant connect to live until the 19th if you use it.

Cleaned up some.
It's fine to discuss your experiences with the new dash, but do NOT ask for or post links to the update.

well for me is e80 after applying the update, it did not let me update from the XNE beta, but it did after restoring a previous dashboard, the console has r6t3 removed, several tries, still e80 after the update.

Yeah, same for me, i disassembled the kernel looking for the cause, and guess what, this kernel makes sure the eFuse got burned Sad, here is the relevant kernel code:

Code:
.text:80060D80                 bl      XeKeysLockSystemUpdate # Branch
.text:80060D84                 mr      %r30, %r3       # Move Register
...
.text:80060E60                 cmpwi   cr6, %r30, 0    # Compare Word Immediate
.text:80060E64                 bge     cr6, loc_80060E74 # Branch if greater than or equal
.text:80060E68                 lis     %r3, unk_12D50@h # Load Immediate Shifted
.text:80060E6C                 ori     %r3, %r3, unk_12D50@l # OR Immediate
.text:80060E70                 bl      VdDisplayFatalError # Show E80.

I then patched the LVD values using the 360 Flash Tool, i then got some "Insert disc to complete update" error message and when i put the disc back in i got a E81 Tongue
I will look further into this but it seems MS don't want you to remove R6T3 Smiley

if the disk is too scratched, you won't be able to play from HDD either, since you still need to have the disk in the drive so it can verify that you own the game.
