The news is from MAXCONSOLE The delightful chaps at Microsoft's 'anti piracy' department got in touch with us to demand an 'immediate' takedown of material located in this thread. The respective thread contained a link to megaupload which claimed to have a download of the upcoming 360 dashboard with all the new fancy stuff. Obviously MS is pretty pissed about this and Megaupload has removed the link and we have removed the download link that a poster put up there. Therefore the leak was indeed real and we can confirm that it is of Xbox Live User Interface - Build 7258 as Microsoft's e-mail states. The new dashboard is leaked but everyone on the forums are unable to update there xbox360 with the new dashboard. Maybe because it is still a beta. Dashboard version is v2.0.7258.0.

I'm not too sure that there's any truth behind the leak. They are claiming that the leak is real because MS demanded that it gets taken down. That doesn't in any way mean it was real in the first place.. MS would obviously play it safe and demand that it be removed.

Why would MS take down it if it wasn't real.

For the reason that it would be a false claim and cause headaches for Microsoft. Even a small question can create huge costs in terms of service and time to answer peoples questions.

cause it could be something damaging. cause it would cause a $#!tload of stupid rumors. cause the very claim that there's a leak/hack is bad for their reputation. I am quite sure they'd demand for it to be taken down first, THEN verify if it was ever real in the first place.

The leak is real, but the dash is useless without the 7159 or higher.

MS didn't demand for it to be taken down for $#!t and giggles. Links to the dashboard will NOT be allowed here.

well, whoever created that dump is a moron. it's completely useless as it is, it's a bunch of loose files thrown into a $systemupdate folder. the files may be real, but you can't do $#!t with them because they are not installable.

What if this guy wasn't a moron after all... I know this may seem a little off base, but what if these "loose files" are the actual files needed to download the update? The su2007...file is the usual update file, with all of the actual legit XEX's. (compared to other updates) and also includes the new kernel. The "loose files" have each of the different components of the new dash in the packages, so what else would there need to be to run the update? If anyone knows the address where the update looks for the files, it would be interesting to see what happens if you spoof the address

not me. tried off cd with the image provided and directly dumping the files into the $systemupdate folder on a HDD, replacing the existing systemupdate. both weren't recognized at all.

I tried to update, I get the update promt, I selected ok then it tries to connect to the internet and it fails (Since i disconnected the Ethernet cord, don't want it calling home do we ). It then shows a message "Failed to download update". The Xbox 360 i tested on currently has the 4532 kernel (Yes i have my e-fuses (plus is R6T3 removed) and a permanently soldered in infectus so no worry). Maybe it wants to contact some auth server to verify it's on the internal MS network?

well, no.. it's not that easy. don't bother, just wait for the official release. it IS beta, bugged, and many functions are completely missing still.

Maybe there is a possibility that there is a bug that can unlock the xbox360 power of running home brew because its still a beta there should be some bug that can help the hackers to clear the path towards home brew.

I think we might be missing files. If you look at the image below (from the system.manifest file included with the update) and after the -flash portion it has files listed which arent included So I think its trying to download the missing files. sorry if I double post browser is acting up.
